New Datacenter in Florida
Hey Gang --
Our existing datacenter is being forced to move (because the dick's who own the building are turning it into a hotel -- not a carrier hotel -- like a marriott hotel)..
We are in a VERY unique position to have (within reason) a bank check policy and have been asked by the owners of our current building to get prices together to relocation our entire company to a new building (which is JUST a shell, there is no HVAC, Electric or telecom in the building - literally - it's just 4 walls, a floor and a ceiling).
Our existing DC has an OC-12 and 3 100mb metro ethernet connections and around 2500 sq feet worth of space.
With our current lease, our lawyers have told us the building is required to do everything to ensure a 0-downtime transition (which means, we continue running as-is while they build a new office, DC and install all new equipment so our clients can move when the "switch is thrown")...
I'd like some input for fellow colo people to get ideas on equipment, costs and feedback of what you're currently using, what works [and what doesn't] and what new equipment you think would be of benefit us...
Looks like this move will [hopefully] happen by Q1 2009, so I need to get on the ball with equipment and prices...
FYI: we're only 1/16th of a mile away from two MAJOR fiber splice points in West Palm Beach, FL
Please post any questions/suggestions/concerns... I will be checking this thread daily!!
You should start from basic inventory such as following and go from there.
* How many gears do you plan to move?
* What are the gear dimensions?
* What are the gear power consumptions?
* How many rack space do you need?
* Is there a plan to reserve space for future growth?
* How much is your budget?
* Will the DC manned or unmanned?
