said by KrK :said by TKJunkMail :Funny, I missed the part that FORCED people to use the store. My bad! I think you missed more then that... you missed the point entirely. Let's see: Bell Canada rolls out throttling on THIRD PARTY ISP'S that among other things throttles sites like Vuze. Meanwhile they launch their own, un-throttled Video store. I guess you can't see any problem with that? Sure, they aren't forcing you to use their store. They're just throttling you and others from using OTHER services. Download your videos over HTTP, Rapidshare for example, and it won't be throttled, end of story. |

So let's get out the tar & feathers and run them out of town on a rail. {/sarcasm} Bell Video Store Q&A » www.bellvideostore.ca/Help.htmFunny, I missed the part that FORCED people to use the store. My bad! They're not forcing you to use their video store, they're forcing you to NOT use anybody ELSE's video store.
Bell complains they have congestion in their network, so they throttle P2P and some other streaming media formats. This prevents competitors from delivering users to Sympatico customers. Bell also throttles the connections of wholesalers that buy aggregation services from Bell, so in effect, all DSL subscribers in Ontario/Quebec can use Bell's services, or nobody else.
That's a tad anti-competitive, doncha think? Walmart doesn't MAKE you shop there, they just drive everybody else out of business so that you don't have a choice. Same thing here, except worse; it's like Walmart is boarding up the doors on other peoples' stores to stop them from accepting customers. |

| reply to TKJunkMail I think it's more along these lines....
Bell Marketing: We are going to be launching our new Video store soon.
Bell Management: But there are other stores out there, how will we be able to compete with them?
Bell Marketing: Simple, we have our network engineers degrade the service on all others, we own the pipes after all, that way everyone will be forced to go to our product if they want good performance.
Bell Management: But what about the ISP's we lease to?
Bell Legal: Oh don't worry....we had a poison pill buried in all of our contracts in case.
Bell Management: Shiney |
