I think using attreg@att.net/attreg will not allow you to get anywhere other than the account activation pages. I think it's also crippled, speedwise, no faster than DSL lite.
I did some general surfing with it, just to see what would happen. I could go anywhere I wanted. DSL Lite speeds for sure.

BTW, the packing slip that came with my kit contains a statement that you must register from your assigned number. At least that's the way I read it.
