| 3.8Mbps acceptable for the Elite package?
upgraded to elite from pro and now i get:
Download = 3.891 Mbps Upload = 645.57 kbps
the Pro package i had i was getting 2.5Mbps and 426. up
i was thinking I would at least get 5Mbps for the Elite. Should I ask for help in the Direct Forum? |

| That is an odd ball download speed. It doesn't match the speeds expected for an aggregation router misconfiguration.
So either you have a tweaking problem: »/tweaks or your modem has trained down. Can you post your sync speeds from the modem's GUI? |

Edit: it says Vista does not have any tweaks which i'm using |

| reply to HomeChicken the speedstream 5100 I figured the gui would be in the modem 192.168.0.1 but to get there i had to unplug my linksys router..so I did then i do the PPOE on the modem and get on the internet, I do a speed test at ATT site ..now i get Download = 4.893 Mbps Upload = 662.25 kbps
does that sound right for Elite speed now? So why would it go faster with the router out of the picture? I'll try to get the speeds from the modem for the posts sake. |

3 edits | reply to HomeChicken That is a reasonable throughput speed for Elite so you are probably were probably syncing at 6016.
There are various reasons the router could be slowing your throughput, e.g. WAN port at 10baseT speeds, a bad firmware version, QoS throttle settings left over from a slower speed plan, etc.
Edit: It looks like your modem is training down after a short duration at 6016 speeds.
Do you still have that microfilter on your home run? Can you check your sync speeds and stats at your NID: »AT&T Southeast Forum FAQ »How to check modem stats, synch rates & speeds from test jack at the NID. ? |

| reply to HomeChicken first off I wanna say thanks for your time and help! I remember "way back when" i put my modem in "bridge" mode when i had pro ..this time before putting my router back in the equation I put the modem in "PPP on the computer" mode and now i get the same speeds I get with just the modem connected. Now I'm happy and I think I'll pass on the outside NID testing UNLESS like you said modem trains down to much (whatever that is(sounds like a slow down)) But again, you have fixed my issue with your precious time..THNKS BBR COMMUNITY! |
