| 53 day u-verse update (long and boring)
A tad under 2 month u-verse rant and rave.
For TV I went from Comcast to DirecTV to U-Verse (analog TV).
As far as picture quality, lack of freeze-ups, etal.
1)DirecTV (except when a bad storm moved in excellent picture) 2)U_Verse (picture good, but now and then, up to 15 second delay(picture freeze) on channel change!) 3)Comcast (decent picture, way too much pixalation so I dropped it for DirecTV)
Internet end - from Comcast to U-Verse.
Even with having both TV & Internet for Comcast I could only get a tad over 6MB down and about 300KB up. Sometimes my download was a little over 56K modem speed, but very few outages. Once I dropped the TV side, it remained the same, even though Comcast said I would be going to 4MB down. After a full year, me thinks they were wrong.
On the U-Verse, I went with the 6/1 package. It's has been very close to that range, no slowdowns noticed. So far (ask me in a year!) behaving much better than Comcast ever did.
Now on the reward side, a lot of ranting!
When I signed up I told them I wanted it under my name, not my dad's, heck he's been dead for 2 years. No problem they say. Gets installed, his name. No biggie, they never seemed to mind on the phone end I was signing my name for his bills. Decide to call up and ask how I could get it changed to my name. I was told they would have to remove all the devices, deactivate, and then install devices and activate in my name. Say what? Just left it under his name LOL.
About a week before install I call up and told them I was reading how if you signed up VIA the web you got a free month of TV, but not so over the phone. I told them I would like to cancel, then make an appointment VIA the web. It would be done within 5 minutes so the techs could still come out as scheduled. No problem, we'll put you down for one month of free TV (both had the $100 back so that didn't matter). Get the bill - no one month of free TV. Call back and explain the situation. They have no record of me being told of one month of free TV. I explained I did call and explained how I was going to simply cancel appointment, then ask for one VIA the web. They (billing) says I have to talk to reward center as they cannot give me the one month free. Talk to reward center, they say I have to talk to billing. WTF. Anyway I finally convinced one of them (forget who LOL) to get me the one month free. Came away even better because since neither 'talk to each other' I also got a $50 debit card as part of the register by phone promotion :0) Their goof, my favor! As to the Visa card, has my dad's name on it of course, again, no biggie but I cannot register it as it doesn't recognize the last 4 of the billing phone number. Call up and they ask "whom am I talking to" an blurt out my name. D'OH. "Verify name on card". Oops - two different first names, we cannot activate it. If you fax your ID, change account letter and death certificate we can have it changed to your name. I then asked why it wouldn't take the last 4 digits of the billing phone number. She replies "it is looking for the last 4 of your u-verse account number" (be nice if the recording said for u-verse subscribers it is the last 4 of your account number). Problem solved! Thanked her, hung up, called back, entered last 4 of the account number, card activated.
That should be it, until I get the $100 check with my dad's name on it. Luckily I have authority to cash checks in his name, well at least I think I do, never had to try it :0) | | Old_Grouch Today is not your day Premium join:2004-05-26 Greenwood, IN clubs:

If you are executor of his estate and it is still open, you may have the authority.
If you merely had a power of attorney that he signed while he was alive, you might find that the power ended upon his death.
Either way, good luck. -- At Team Discovery we know how to get more outta that danged 'puter of yours! If you paid taxes it's a rebate. If you didn't, it's welfare. | |
