| Can't remotely access a site that uses a WISP
I'm really getting frustrated by a WISP that a customer is using. I need to enable remote access to some equipment at the site. I am almost positive that the WISP does not have their equipment configured to allow me to connect from my office, through their radio, and into the customer's router.
I know that I have the router and the equipment set up properly, because I've done this general setup plenty of times. No matter what I try, I cannot communicate with anything out there (i.e. router, desktop PC, and misc equipment). They claim that everything on their end is set up properly and that it must be my equipment.
I'm still suspicious of their setup. It just doesn't seem right to me. The radio has the public IP address and they told me to set an internal IP address on the router. This works for browsing the Internet from the site, but it doesn't allow for remote access to the site. Unless they put the radio into some kind of transparent bridging mode or forward all ports, I don't think I'm going to get anywhere.
Anyone have some ideas or suggestions despite my relatively vague information? Unfortunately, I don't have the specs on the radio at this time. Unless I can pry it out of them, I won't be able to get it until I go back to the site next week. |

| Are you sure the customer's router has a public IP on the WAN side? It sounds like it could be a case of double-NAT. Can you provide a tracert from both sides?

| I have a few customers that have outside vendors come in and do remote work all of the time. All of my radios have a static IP also and to this point, it has never been an issue. I am going to guess that the WISP radio is a router and the customer you are trying to work with has a router also. As mentioned by LLigetfa, double NAT seems to be the issue. | reply to ppettit Thanks for the replies, everyone. I'm actually at the site as I post this. The problem was the router (Linksys WRT54G). For some unknown reason, it just locked up and wouldn't allow anything to pass through.
Since I've had a lot of problems with Linksys routers lately, I decided to get a different brand. I wound up getting a D-Link DIR-615. I had it configured before I showed up and when I hooked everything up, it worked right away and I haven't had any problems so far. Hopefully, this one won't lock up like the Linksys.
