Rally Reminders...

Gang,

TRANSPORTATION:

Don't forget to fill this form in if you need to hop on the Bus on Tuesday to get to Ottawa, as we are going to give precedence to those who registered, otherwise, should the bus be full, it will be on a first-come first-serve basis.

Note: We've made a small change to the Toronto location and have clarified where from as the lot is very large.

TIME OF RALLY:

Don't forget we are going start at 11:30AM and will go until 1:30PM.

CONDUCT:

Quick reminder that we are there to support everyone... Civil, industry "and" political, so even if you might generally be more supportive of one political group over another, we are there to work toward laying a Net Neutrality Foundation, not to debate political colours and such.

Rocky

Silly question...

But is there a place where we can park? Not really familiar with the area...

Toronto: Believe you'd be on the dufferin side of the Yorkdale Mall

Montreal: As I understand you'd be in the general parking lot

Chatham: In the TSI parking space.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on this gang.

There are a number of parking lots and garages on the streets around Parliament Hill (particularly down Bank Street) but be prepared to pay through the nose (at least $10-$15.) I live in Ottawa and will be parking downtown because I can't stand the buses in this city. If you want to park, just drive around the streets in the northern Bank Street area and you'll find something for sure.

Also try the garage at Rideau Shopping Centre, Ottawa City Hall ( small walk to Parliament ), World Exchange Plaza, Minto Towers. There's lots of public parking off of the side streets... Queen, Albert, Slater, Laurier. Most are indoor covered, some are outdoor, all are EXPENSIVE!

I'm leaning towards Rideau Centre ( Rideau @ Colonel By Drive); there's a food court there. Can't protest on an empty stomach

I did a search a few weeks ago of the Ottawa transit system. It seemed the best bet was to use a park & ride, if driving yourself. It seems they have parking lots on the outskirts that you can park for free, and then take the transit system to Parliament.

That's true, but coming from Gatineau, he would pass almost right by the Parliament to drive to the outskirts where the Park&Rides are located.. I believe there are buses from the Gatineau side of the river, over to downtown Ottawa.

for those considering the park and ride option, the map shows where you can park and hop onto a bus to the parliament...
it's cheap cause parking is free and the bus ride costs about 3$ per person...

Be aware also some of those lots are full by 9:00AM. Lots of Gov't workers going downtown by transit every morning

and if you are planning in parking by the Gatineau side, you can check
»www.sto.ca/autres_services/parc_e.html
park and ride areas...
-----------------------
for those in Ottawa, parking at a Mall such as Gloucester Center, St-Laurent Shopping mall or Place D'Orleans can accomodate also if the park and rides are full, there is usually sufficient parking space in those malls...
you can take the 95 towards downtown and get off at Bank stop downtown and walk up to parliament.

The lot at Terry Fox should have plenty of space available. It's only a few minutes west of the 416, and if you're coming via Highway 7, you'll have to pass right by it anyway.

Eagleson is another option, you should be able to find parking there too.

If you're coming up 416, and want to stay out of city traffic altogether, you can get off at Fallowfield. That's the biggest P&R lot. The 95 bus goes downtown from there.

I notice on the OC-Transpo map linked to in a previous post »www.octranspo.com/maps_menue.htm ( click on Park&Ride) it shows the 417 running north to Bayshore. That's actually the 416. Good job OC-Transpo! Now you know why we locals don't take the bus.

Speak for yourself! I take the bus everyday to Kanata & back. Good call on the Fallowfield stop. That one has plenty of room. I'm rarely in Farhaven, so I forgot about that one.

The 95 is an easy ride downtown from there, and has buses every 4 minutes that time of the day. You need to catch the 95 by 11AM from Fallowfield to get downtown by 11:30.

I'll email the group with details on location on Saturday, so if you haven't heard anything by Sunday, please email me.

Warning!! The park & ride lot in Barrhaven (on Fallowfield) is often full by 9am, all 800+ spots (it's very popular, and this is why they've expanded it twice since it opened). It's only 20 minutes by bus to downtown from there, now that the Transitway is all the way out there.

If that's the case, it's easy to head a little way south on Greenbank and park in the Barrhaven Shopping Centre (Loblaw/Wal*Mart). You can catch the 95 there, and I don't think anybody's going to notice or care about a car there for ~3 hours. Lord knows, my wife parks there and has barely started shopping in 3 hrs
