| Elite service beyond present distance limits
I have Elite service on one of my phone lines. Until recently ATT's website indicated that Elite service was available on my other line. Now, I am supposedly over the distance limit. Anyone have any suggestions on how to force ATT to provide Elite service on my second line? (I have a dual WAN router that is begging for a second WAN connection) You would think that ATT would prefer to collect the extra revenue but this assumes that they possess some common sense. I suppose I could threaten to disconnect all of my phone lines and go with Comcast and VOIP, if it were not for the fact that I am not a Comcast fan. My thought at this point is that if I cannot get Elite service on my second line, I should simply get a MagicJack and disconnect the line altogether.

| Have you checked with the techs in AT&T Direct: »/forum/sbcdirect about qualifying the second line for Elite? What are your line stats on the first line? Of course, the two loops don't have to follow the same route to your place. This is especially true if one was added years after the first. |

| reply to baj475 No, I have not checked with the techs in AT&T Direct. Can they qualify a line even if it is beyond the distance limits? The house is approximately 6 years old and all lines were established to an RT when the house was constructed. Line stats are SN Margin 15.5dB and Line Attenuation 24.0dB.

| reply to baj475 Robert, if both lines follow the same path, then both should be qualified for Elite. Your second line, unless it is horribly damaged along its route, should have a similar attenuation. Loops on RTs with attenuation values of up to 45.0 dB (even somewhat beyond that in most circumstances) will handle Elite speeds stably.
I think they can run a remote test in Direct to determine your loop distance, and then correct their data base which seems to be wrong in your case. |
