Actually what I can understand about your setup, you are double natting so linksys is not saving you from anything your westell isn't already.

My MTU setting on my Linksys router is the default 1500 just as an FYI I have a WRT54G :)

Yes, the speedtest is (IMHO) appearing to give a quite positive result that does NOT work out in real life with file downloads, somehow.
The speedtest does not translate into fast downloads.
So for me it is the reverse; a good or very good speedtest results in a poor or terrible download.

And the line-quality is terrible. -- The transfer gets dropped quite often. :(
So I am forced to restart the same file several times.

Would I be happy with a 200+ kB/s download? -- Heck yeah!

It appears your account is configured correct for the 1.5 tier. I would expect throughput for a computer connected by ethernet to run between 1.4-1.5 down and 240-270 upload.

Type 192.168.1.1 into your browser, I believe it will be under troubleshooting, then transceiver stats. Have a Westell 610014-03 rev G.

Getting lousy performance and considering a switch.

The tech online directed me to a couple of spped test sites, that (no surprise) had shown a fine result.

Then (after pleading) a tech visited the NID (Network Interface Device: that box outside where the telephone line enters the house) and supposedly tested again and pronounced it fine too.

Yet my download speeds just suck compared to past experience with a different provider (I recently moved) and versus the promised performance.

Having a passing "speed test" and a tech visit to the NID does not fix my issue.

What is next: talking to an "engineer" at CT or switching to the only alternative, Coosa Cable?

It's almost like their download is limiting me (probably via software at the dslam in CO) to their entry level rate, despite that I am paying for their "premium" 1.5 Mb faster speed.

Any help is appreciated.
