Anon | GTE Can't deliver (speed nor the service) I had GTE bronze dsl service for about 2 months now in Diamond Bar, CA area. I had problem form day one and I had to make about 9 different phone calls and talk to about 12 different technician who kept gave me run arounds about who fault it is. When it finally worked my speed tested out at maximum of 290kbps/30kbps. I was told by dsl tech that my line is capable for above 768k/128k. I called to compalin and all they could tell me is "Well, it's not a guarateed speed, sir. There is absouletly nothing we could do." Does this sound right to you people? |
|
 | Complain some more. I'm having a similar problem and only getting about 238/60 out of 768/128. Seems like the DSLAM was set for 256/64. GTE tech called me to tell me it was now properly set at 768/128. While he was online I tested it at about 703/118. Later that same day it went back down to 238/60. Some clown at GTE must be resetting the DSLAM to 256/128. Still no action on my new complaint.
BTW the GTE tech told me the max DL speed for my address is tested at 3600 kbps and I am at 14000 cable feet from the CO.
Complain. Complain. Complain. Escalate the call by requesting to speak to a supervisor or manager.
If all else fails demand a downgrade to their lower level of service 256/64 and demand a refund of the difference in billing and tell them you intend to complain to the PUC. |

 | This is IDENTICAL to the situation I'm in! Down to the speeds... I'll keep hammering at them.
I've been getting a major runnaround on who to all/complain to. Is there a central number I should try, or any recommendations on what department to scream at?
THANKS! |

| I guess I am lucky here in Florida. I am around 700-715 / 120-130 almost all of the time and I have checked my speed from this site and others. I do know that tweaking my pc from this site increased the down from around 560 to around 712 instantly. I would be calling to find out what the f*$%ing problem is if my speed was like that. |
|
 | reply to borahood I went through my ISP (which is not GTE/Verizon).
GTE/Verizon's ADSL support number is 888-391-1234 describe your problem and ask to speak to a senior tech.
After about 9 or so complaints to my ISP (and a threat to contact the Public Utilities Commission) the problem seems to be resolved (for the moment). |

| YEEEEEHAAAAAAW I was ready to give up LONG ago from the runaround, but your post gave me the encouragement to give it one more attack... low and behold, the Verison tech FINALLY noticed I was configured for bronze, not bronze plus!
Not up to 768... but well over 500!! Yippie!
That 500 is one test at peak times, dosen't bother me a bit.
I don't think I EVER would have gotten results if you hadn't posted the phone number... all I could find were emails, and nobody EVER replied to them. grrrr.
-----------------
Update september 1st... they FINALLY responded to my emails... by telling me I needed to call their phone number!! LOSERS! I hate GTE. Sigh.
Thanks!!!!!

Re: GTE Can't deliver (speed nor the service) all i have to say is... BOOOOOOO!!!! damn guys you are lucky. i ordered from gte and i live in glendora, ca and i had the SAME EXACT PROBLEM AS YOU GUYS!! BUTTTT i couldn't even get the 3 lights on until saturday the 2nd of september (2 week wait since i got the modem installed and everything) and when the guy reset my link for the bronze plus card, NO SIGNAL!! my modem light keeps blinking like it's stupid and i have to use dial up again! i tried calling and calling and they say well this is probably gonna happen again because you're 15K from the CO but in another post a dsl installer said that he's seen people at 15K download at full speed. why can't i even get a connection? DAMN! edit: 6/5/00 it's not 15k like they told me. just did a line test with the gte man here at my house and i'm really 16,500 feet away. and limit here in so. cal is 16,200. so i guess i'm lucky

 | reply to Anon woohoo got my link back up the next morning. but still downloading at those gay speeds. i guess i gotta check again to see when they'll get the bronze plus package up and running |
|
Anon | Until my recent problems I had great performance , from fast servers I have had over 750 kbps dl , and the upload is usually 115-120 kbps and I'm over 15000 ft of cable from the CO. I was told that I would be back on plus by tomorrow nite.
Good Luck All |

 | reply to Anon bullshit! they still haven't changed me and now my link is gone again. this is so stupid. they need to get their act together cause i'm gonna go crazy from all this drama. |
|

| reply to Anon ok the gte guy came to my house and i think the problem is my modem. he gave me his old fujitsu modem and it seemed to connect fine. while we tried my new fujitsu modem and it didn't even connect. or it would connect and then cut out. i think something is up with those new modems. if you live far away, try to trade with the gte guy and get the old modems with the big ass power plugs because it works. and it worked for some of the other gte tech's too. i'm up and running. now only if i can get bronze plus speeds =T
edit: 9/5/00 6:00pm speeds are up to bronze plus and it's cool. but it's not permanent. it'll keep switching until they get this problem fixed.
edit: 9/5/00 10:15pm speeds drop to bronze again. seems like they have dipshits working at the tech support center again because AGAIN the speeds have dropped and they can't do anything about it. "it says here you're doing bronze plus" idiots...

·DSL EXTREME
| If you suspect your modem is to blame, see if you can do what I did. Call around to any of the local GTE Phonemarts and see if they have any of the OLD DSL modems around. The one I managed to get is the Orckit Fastinternet ( part# FC9660RA11 ). I had nothing but trouble with the Fujitsu modem they installed me with. The AC power connector kept wiggling loose and knocking my connection off ( big surprise there ). It eventually broke, and when I called the tech people, they suggested the Phonemart idea. You'll need to bring your current modem to exchange for the new one obviously. I've had zero trouble with the Orckit modem. And it even has a REAL power switch on it |
|
 | reply to Anon i don't think it's my modem because it works fine now. i was even connecting at 800kbps at one point. but then it dropped to 250 just like before. hmm...these people just don't understand. if i'm running a CONSTANT (check my test history) 250 for 3 days...go up to 800...then drop back to 250. then that means i have the same problem. but they don't understand. CHECK THE CARDS DAMNIT! |
|
 | Sounds like exactly the same problem I was having. Complain fixed to 768/128. Switched back to 256/64. Complain. Up/back. Complain etc. Some moron or their software would keep switching it back to 256/64. In my last complaint I threatened to complain to the PUC, Verizon called to say it was definitely set to 768/128 and they put a monitor on the line. So far it has been holding at 768/128.
Keep complaining. If you speak to a tech find out what the max speed your address is tested out to. |
