Re: Need help/tips about DSL connection speed

I started at 3008/800 FastPath as well, i didn't expect
the following years to be made of so much reading and
trouble-shooting, whatever... We just need to wait for
your next posts, starting from there it may be possible
to make resonable suggestions. Fingers crossed!

I am still not re-synchronized. I was told that it takes 2 days last Friday and it is now Monday. I even asked them to confirm that the 2 days included the week-end.

Maybe you need to count two days for AEI and two more for Bell...

After Synchronization
I have been resynchronized 2 days ago. I have the feeling that the SNRM is inversely proportional to the Rate. I don't understand why they wouldn't give me Fast type nor 800 Kbps upstream. The SNRM change a lot over the day. I will need to make my own macro to record statistics out of the web interface. It seems that below ~13.4 I start getting Uncorrectable Errors.

Hi,

I can't comment much at this stage other than to point
out your DownStream/Local Attenuation is rock steady
at 35 dB and so is your UpStream/Remote SNR Margin as
it stays at 6 dB. When i line up the numbers it's not too
clear if the SNR Margin would be proportional to speed
as there are only three samples for your OvisLink device
and i find these rather inconclusive in this respect...

Instead of a linear relationship expect a bell-shaped curve
where extremes don't pay. The trick here is to find out
which limits are not extreme, in my opinion. Anyway...

What i do know is that if i were to try to beg for some
profile raise then i'd just refer my ISP representative(s)
to this ancient post of mine where i demontrated quite
clearly how i could force the MoDem to negociate for a
stable set of DownStream/UpStream speeds between
5056-1440/800-256 Kbps (e.g. until access feels solid):

»GNet Tweaking

In other words, that i can manage it all by myself once
i've obtained reasonable upper limits to work with...

Hi, long time no see...

Somehow i was hoping you wouldn't give up
like most of the other GNet owners before...

Any chance to see any captures to comparre?

Still + 2 SNRM above
What would I do without you...

I tried my old Gnet to have an idea of how bad it would be and I got surprised of the result.

I have been able to achieve a better sync with the Gnet than the Ovislink. The SNRM value is as low as I expected, only -2.

I am spending more time on ideas for the most simple and efficient way to re-wire the house:

- I was thinking about puting a NID box into the demarcation box and use the outer pair of the single wire. I would use the outer pair for the DSL and inner pair for the normal phone with no need of any filter in the house because it is filtered at the source. I also can choose which wires in the house use which pairs.

- Next thing is to place the DSL modem the closest I can. And to link to my network I could use the TV cable with 2 old combo rj45/coax network card. coax is about 10M/bits max but I guess I could get wireless connection later.

I was also curious to know when in the day my SNRM gets the most affected. I wanted the same kind of picture DMT offers. So I made a script in autoit.

From what I can see so far, there is some kind of trigger which my connection from 11.5-12.9 to 14.1-16.5 and vis versa. I have been mainly looking for when this exactly happen to figure out what it is.

Hi,

Two things:

1) You've finally earned the above...

2) Both MoDems face the IKNS Syndrome.

I'd like to see how tweaks work on the OvisLink but
your phone line does look like it will support 5056
Kbps on the DownStream side, after all. Both units
display very similar power levels and SNR Margins
and i no longer believe you can affect the UpStream
SNR Margin (my advise is to ignore this parameter).

Hi again,

Maybe this is going to be somewhat more useful to you:

'Thomson SpeedTouch 24 h Template .ZIP'

This is just simple HTTP code meant to display statistics
which i once was planning to collect using 'Super Macro'.
