| [Newsgroups] It seems everyone was right about Newsgroups...
I used BT for a LONG time, but I finally decided to try out newsgroups today. Why didn't I switch sooner. I'm currently getting just over 2100 kbs on my first download.
I have a question though and the FAQs/guides are still confusing me on this. I have a ton of .r01, .r02, etc. files for my download, but what do I do with them when I'm finished the download? I have WinRAR, but how do I combine all of these parts back into the original file (it's a movie file)? |

This is hands down the best and easiest program that I can recommend for downloading binaries from NG's. |

for a pretty good explanation of rar's and pars check out... »www.slyck.com/ng.php?page=5 & »www.slyck.com/ng.php?page=6

If you want to check out the first part of a movie though, without downloading the whole thing, you will need to start with the .RAR file. Otherwise it will fail.
One annoyance is posters who post everything except the .RAR file first and finish with the .RAR. -- If America has an official philosophy, it surely includes the belief in individualism, competition, private property, democracy, freedom, and a deep faith in education. | Sometimes there may be small files that will get skipped if you start with r15 or something. Winrar will recognize that only part of the movie file is in r15 so it looks for it in the beginning of the achieve ignoring any files that are only like 2mb or so and only present in the first archive. |

| reply to Musouka Grabit is a nice program for downloading nzb files used in usenet downloading. Use Newzleech.com to find your selection, load the nzb file, Grabit should take over and download it, decompress it, and leave it ready to use. If all goes as expected, no need to worry about rar files or anything like that.
Grabit is a "pay" service meaning that they'll try to get you to subscribe to their service. However, paying is not required. You can you Grabit for free without nags which is what I do.
An important aspect to usenet downloading is retention. Some sites like Giganews.com (news.giganews.com) have 200 day retention of usenet files, making the chance of actually downloading a file posted a while back possible. Other sites like usenet.net only have 100 day retention which often results in failed download.
I do find usenet.net faster in downloading than Giganews. However, Giganews allows for 20 download links while usenet.news only allows 10 so it kind of balances out.
Others use different software and have different success stories. This is just my experience. |

I just need to dish out the cash for hosting, my isp only gets up to about 200 kb/s |

| Does not look like it. I think 3.9 and above.
Edit: Now it does still have the old rarslave functionality, but that requires alot more setup and download/install of a third party program.
Last I remember rarslave was command line and kind of a pain in the butt to setup, but it was nice to download stuff for a week straight and par/unrar all of it with one click. |
