att elite, but downloadalways below 3mbs, upload over 600kbs

Greetings all. I pay for elite 6mbs download service from ATT. I am using a speedstream 5100, my XP system directly connected (my computer has ip address issued by ISP, for testing). Download speeds are always below 3mbs (2.4 - 2.7). The upload speed varies between 550 and 630 kbs.

I have tried several different modems with no change in stats.

I have used various speed test sites, including ATT's very own, with similar results.

When the 5100 was in the PPP mode, it told me that it was connected at 6.xx mbs download and 6xxkbs upload speeds (can't remember the lsd's). I don't know if this is significant.

Has anyone had this problem? Any help would be appreciated. I'm almost ready to drop my subscription back a level to the 3.0mbs tier.

Thanks!

Are these speed tests with your computer directly connected to the modem?

Have you verified recently that the modem is still syncing at the 6016 speed?

If they are and it still is, then you have a problem with a misconfigured AT&T aggregation router and would need to speak with Tier 2 to have your router profile ripped and rebuilt for Elite speeds.

im having the same problems. just upgraded to elite and my speeds stay at around the same speed i had before or slower. except for my upload, which is now at a stable 80.6kb/s or so.

ive tried a few things, changing the pppoe location, removing the router, power cycles, ect. nothing has worked thus far. i also made a post in direct att help but hasnt been answered yet.

I'm having the exact same problem down to the letter. How exactly do you get to a tier 2 rep?

It might be better if you post a Trouble thread in AT&T Direct: »AT&T Direct. The techs there can do a rip and rebuild on your router profile to the proper speed.

It takes longer to get this problem fixed in Direct due to the backlog (maybe 3 days before you get a reply), but it is the sure fire method of getting this fixed. You may not be able to get to Tier 2 over the phone.

Thanks for the heads up. Do you think this should be listed as [trouble] or [upgrade failed]?

Is this slow speed a result of an upgrade? The upgrade failed is most commonly a stuck speed ramp and not usually an aggregation router misconfiguration.

If you had an upgrade, then go with the failed upgrade, but if this slowdown happened out-of-the-blue, then go with Trouble. In some areas, these out-of-the-blue slowdowns of router profiles have become too common.

failed upgrade for sure. Thanks for the help.

@pacbell.net

Greetings again! After I posted my initial plea for help, I found I could no long post anything, even though I had a login. So I went ahead and called ATT. I stated that I needed to speak to a Tier 2 tech because of advice I got from an ATT forum. She still asked the required questions, then she asked "and you are specifically requesting tier 2 service"? Well of course, I said yes, and relatively quickly got a t2 tech, and problem was solved. Basically what everybody has been saying, the profile had to be rebuilt. Oh, and the tier 2 tech also asked me if I specifically requested a tier 2 tech.

Maybe asking will work on the phone.

You definately have to ask for tier 2 to get to them.
