| 3web in ottawa?
I have a few question for those of you on 3web (via rogers cable) in ottawa:
1. how often does your ip address change?
2. are any tcp ports blocked (specifically 25)
3. is it true that there is no throttling and no caps?
4. is anyone on the 16mbit service getting that speed?
5. can i keep my rogers cable and 3web at the same time (at least for a transition period so i don't go down) |

Platinum is the equivalent of Extreme service, not Extreme Plus service, so max speed is 10Mbps down, and 1Mbps up
Gold is the equivalent of Express Service, 7/800.
So, to answer question 4, no, but you should get the full 10Mbps speed.

Blocked ports - don't know, but if any, expect port 25 to be blocked

There is no throttling. And as far as I know, no caps

IF you buy / rent a separate modem for 3web. Each service is identified by the modem's MAC address, not by any login as done by DSL. Also, while you can have 2 modems on the same piece of cable, you should only connect one at any time unless your signal strength is excellent.

IP addresses usually only change on cable as the result of a power down or lease expiry. It's rare for them to change "on the fly". Normally, lease expiry will just reassign your existing IP. |

WOW, something to think about... |

  sbrook Premium,Mod join:2001-12-14 H0H 0H0 | I don't see extreme plus on the 3web website!
Where is that? Their site is screwed up ... in one place it says on a page that it's 42.95 and elsewhere it's 39.95 (probably from a different page). |

BUT.. Instead of a flat rate I sign up for the per minute billing... (the site crashes when I pick a LD package so I don't know if there are any "network fees" |

it has platinum and it says it's at 16mbit? it has gold as the 10mbit option.
it's only like 40something if you don't get their long distance service (Which i wont). $40ish is less than i pay for 10mbit right now... |

can anyone with the service confirm this information... |

igsjake VIP join:2002-11-13 Ottawa, ON | reply to Roop No caps, no throttling, no port blocking.
Rogers has yet to throttle TPIA reseller cable customers...probably waiting to see what the fallout from Bell doing such is. |

| In Ottawa, Gold is 7M/512K, Platinum is 10M/800K on Rogers.
Home Phone premium is *ONLY* available with the 7M/512K service. I tried 6-ways to Sunday to get them to give me Platinum service with HPP...no dice.
Faster speeds are ONLY available in the East via Cogeco (16/1M)
Rule of thumb...figure out whose plant CIA is overlaying and look up their packages.
