1 edit | [Need Info] Making Payments to RCN. Could they make it more diff
How is it possible that this is 2008 and RCN STILL does not have the ability to make a credit card payment from their website?? Your only option from the Website is an ETF from a bank account and to make a Credit Card payment using the automated phone system costs an insulting $3.50. I don't understand why RCN makes it so difficult to give them money. |

| I Want To Use My Credit Card, too
I want to use my Discover card so I can get the 2% cash back reward. That amounts to $48 I could save each year on my RCN bills. It's slightly ironic that a communications company relies on old-school EFT's for customers to pay their bills online. The RCN phone system with its convenience fees is a joke and unacceptable.
There's more fraud protection from a credit card transaction than EFT. |

1 edit | I am set-up for automatic payment via credit card, but the charges to my card aren't listed as a cable provider (through VISA's internal code).
rcnman (or someone from RCN): any chance you could look into this? The problem is that it's EXTREMELY difficult to have my internet reimbursed from my company, when your company isn't categorized with VISA correctly. |

I found the same stupid issue.
I finally gave up when they stopped taking online payments. I could use the points off of my mileage visa check card.
Now I use my BOA bill pay and it doesn't cost me anything. I don't get points, but I don't have to deal with RCN.

@davita.com | reply to rcbrcb IIRC, RCN used to take CC payments online. It was only a year or two ago that they cut the options down to bank draft. |

| reply to rcbrcb I think the main reason here, although RCN will never admit it, is that ETF / ACH / Bank Drafts are practically free while there is a processing charge and a certain % taken from credit card payments.
It's to their advantage to only offer EFT/ACH... and probably one of the reasons that CC used to be accepted but the option was removed. |

| reply to rcbrcb I pay my monthly bill with an automatic charge to my AMEX. It was setup a few years ago, so it may be grandfathered in, but I just checked and my AMEX statement is showing the charge...
This is how it shows up...

RCN CABLE PHON INTER800-RINGRCN NJ Yeah, that's how it shows up on my bill also. The problem is that it's not coded (using the interal codes) correctly, so it isn't categorized as a "cable provider" as it should be...and therefore VERY hard for me to get my company to reimburse.
Even without my issue, though, I'd think it's something they would want to fix! |

said by rcnman :I'm looking into it.. Rcnman, has issue with the VISA category been resolved (so that RCN will be listed as a cable tv provider)? I can't tell you how much hassle this would save me, if were fixed ASAP, before I'm billed for this month (later this week). Thanks!! |

I noticed this a long time ago as well and had my bank adjust this manually to obtain my rewards (including all subsequent payments).
However, I agree with the others it is REALLY annoying RCN no longer accepts automatic payments via credit card or updates to current credit card payments. Verizon, Comcast and Time Warner allow this, so it is strange RCN decided to eliminate the option. |

And since I get detailed bills (for work expenses) it KILLS me to have to explain to accounting EVERY MONTH why RCN isn't listed correctly... |
