| FIOS Guide Data Stinks......and seems to be getting worse
OK, I know this is a tired subject on this board but I cannot take it anymore!!! What's the use of paying extra money for a DVR if half of what you try to record ends up being the wrong program because the guide data stinks. For the past week I've tried three times to record parts one and two of a Harry Truman biography. It's been playing on all the PBS stations. Every stinking recording has ended up being a Charile Rose repeat or some other show. Anything but the actual show I'm trying to record. How can Verizon spend billions of dollars on this fiber-to-the-home network and finish it off by spending $1.95 on a guide data provider? It's just boggles my mind. When will they wake up to this problem and finally fix it? |

| One thing I have learned is to never buy or subscribe to something based on what will happen in the future. As long as people are subscribed there is little incentive to change anything for current customers. Verizon will put money into getting new customers and not retain current customers. |

| reply to tew1165 Pvcleave, not sure I understand the first part of your response. It sounds like some sort of old Asian proverb. What did I subscribe to based on what will happen in the future? I had no idea the guide data would be this bad until I started using the service last year. I think the second part of your response is completely wrong. Why would Verizon, or any company for that matter, not try to retain their existing customer base? If they don't retain people their subscriber base will never increase no matter how many new subs they get. And I do believe they are trying to retain everyone, why else would the be in the process of adding all these new HD channels? |

A DVR that we pay for every month won't record, and a FIOS MAN tells us to shut up and record somthing else! Oh yeah, that's the way to increase customer satisfaction.
As I have said before, that's why I have a TIVO. |

So they should do their best to keep their existing customers. |

| reply to tew1165 OK, everyone can laugh at me for recording something from PBS while you watch cartoons in your underwear, but the point is the data stinks. Case in point, right now I'm watching channel 60, the ESPN pre-game show before the NBA playoffs. The guide data lists the program as "Scooby do where are you". I kid you not, anyone that see's this post check your guide before 8:30 and you will see it, at least here in the Philly area. |

| reply to tew1165 Guide data works great. That is if you don't care to know which teams are playing each other, or it doesn't bother you not knowing which guests are on a talk show, or need to know who is staring in a movie.
I wouldn't say it's getting worse, with the exception of the "starring" feature, but it's definitely not getting any better. |

Recently, I tuned to channel 227 to watch "Family Guy" (as listed in the guide). Surprise, surprise, that's not what was being shown, it was another show entirely.
said by tew1165 :When will they wake up to this problem and finally fix it? Only when a majority of their customers pick up their pitchforks and torches (like they did when it came to the lack of HD channels).
Wait a sec, wasn't I complaining about shitty guide data last year? Nice work, Verizon. |

| reply to tew1165 Another fine example - on the freeview of The Tennis Channel for the French open every day's description is "The ladies final ...". This from day one of the early rounds. OK, so you don't know the exact matches, but let's get real, you can't have the ladies final for 2 weeks!! -- REMEMBER: Stupidity should be painful !! |

| reply to tew1165 We rely on DVR way too much to have sub-standard guide data. This will be a showstopper for my switching over to FIOS until they correct it, especially considering FIOS won't really save me much on cost if anything at all. My Comcast DVR/guide data has been near-flawless since I subscribed 4 years ago. I suppose with FIOS you either enjoy the cost savings of a "cheap" guide data provider, or you mortgage the house for a TiVO unit. Speaking of TiVO, maybe if they had a TiVO subscription option with the FIOS DVR box, they could at least overcome this problem for those who truly care about guide data accuracy among other DVR features. Sad that it would have to come to that. |

| reply to tew1165 I finally had enough and ordered a Tivo (couldn't talk to the wife into letting me get one for her TV as well) It was $230 with free shipping from Amazon, hardly mortgaging the house. Still a little over the $200 price point I was waiting on but close enough not to make a huge difference. Now if they only show up tomorrow to install the cablecards. |
