The poor English is often a clue as to the legitimacy of the message.

Please post the headers of the email. Also, If you have not already done so, you should send a copy of the email, including the header information, to Charter.

Gee, why should I go through all of the trouble of giving them this info just to keep an email account from being closed? For the same amount of time on my part, I can get a portion of the bank account of some rich person who just happened to die in Nigeria without declaring any heirs!

The person who gets this account information can use it to authenticate to the Charter SMTP message submission servers, if such a requirement exists.

I have received spam through Comcast SMTP servers which was apparently injected via such a compromised account.
