jonrkcPremium join:2003-05-19 Kansas City, MO 1 edit | Online bill payment trouble and solution I hope this may help somebody facing the same difficulty I had.
I received via email my usual notice that my AT&T bill was ready to view and pay online. I clicked on the included "Online Account Manager" link as usual, and was taken to a page in a new format. There, although my username and password were plugged in automatically, as usual, by my browser, they were not recognized. I got a page for requesting a new password and, attempting that, got taken to another page saying they did not have enough information to allow me to change the password -- and to phone customer service to make arrangements for it. (Shudder, curse.) I clicked on a link promising to provide a "help" page for resetting passwords, just in case that might spare me the dreaded phone call, and -- it took me back to the preceding page (endless loop).
As a last resort I decided to try going to www.att.com to see what, if anything, I could do there. Surprise: on the righthand side of the page you can choose wireless or residential, I chose the latter and "Pay bill," and got the familiar login, which worked, the usual "This may take a while" page, and finally my bill, which I was able to pay.
It appears they are implementing some new way to handle billing (the address was way more complicated than att.com), through a third party, and the records are incomplete or downright wrong there.
I hope this will spare somebody else a phone call to AT&T customer service, which I consider a fate only slightly better than death. I might even reconsider that assessment.
Edit: I should add that I live in Kansas City, Missouri.

Sure sounds like a phishing expedition. | | jonrkcPremium join:2003-05-19 Kansas City, MO | reply to jonrkc Phishing did enter my mind, but here is the link in the email itself, that I clicked on:
To make an online payment now, log in to AT&T Account Manager:
http://www.att.com/accountmanager
I can make an entry in AT&T Direct with an attachment of the entire original email (too long to quote here, and too many details to obscure for security). If an AT&T person reads this and wants that done, let me know.
Clicking on the link took me to a page whose very long address starts:
https://cprodmasx.att.com/commonLogin/
The address looks like a good AT&T one to me...
