you will sometimes get some channels even with a trap if you have high speed internet. most cable operators have auditors that go out and check taps on the cable lines for right filters being on the lines and to make sure the right houses have cable connection at the tap.

And some techs will not put them on thinking it is just another passive device that can go bad, get water, get corroded and cause a service issue down the road.
And then some are just lazy.
There are also times during big CHSI pushes that there are so many installs that they local warehouse will run out of expanded filters.
All of this should be taken care of next year however...
