YouTube very slow?

Some videos at YT are either getting pounded or are just slow, most load and play instantly.

Do you have a video as example?

Here, this is a rather "Out-There" video and it loads instantly.

WTF was that ... it's hilarious lol.

A couple of days ago I spent, or wasted, a couple of hours watching videos of homemade jet engines and related stuff, and not a single video took time to load or paused as it was playing. Videos always start playing within 5 seconds and would be done loading before the playback reached halfway.

Are you sure it's not something to do with your PC? Because I assume at work and when you tried it on Verizon you were using another computer, or not?

for me its every single youtube video... the rest of the net is fast... hulu is fast... just youtube is slow as heck

That's pretty much what ive seen for over a week now... does that on comcast... works fine on 2 other ISP's with no stalls

A packet sniffer App might help to provide a clue.

By the time I figure how to use a packet sniffer, the war in Iraq will be over.

As far as Youtube loading slow..it seems to only happen once in awhile for me..

I'm not sure if DNS has any role in this..I'm sure I'll be corrected if it doesn't, but if it does, try switching your DNS ip.

i'm in the East Bay, too, and the second video you posted (the one with the first pitch), stopped three times while i was watching it.

you don't have that problem?

i have new wiring (serviced a few months ago), a new rented modem, a 10/100 (decent) router ::(Dlink DGL-4100)::, CAT 5E (10/100 Mbps) network wiring, and a 10/100 network card installed on my computer. I can't see what would be different in my setup than what yours might be, and still it runs slowly.

Is this something to call Comcast about? I don't see why it would be, but youtube's help channel isn't Helping very much...

I have noticed it also in ATL.

The ones on this page took a bit as do most all of them I have tried lately.
Quite annoying as prior to this they have all loaded really quickly and I never had to wait for buffering.
Even google video loads fast while youtube is slow.

No Blast here yet, but on 8000/768 with PB

Not to minimize your complaint, but it could just be YouTube. The videos are not exactly grade A downloads, and overall the site is usually bombarded with tons of users/downloads at once.

Try some other sites with streaming video, and see if you get problems with that.

Also, if it doesn't happen with every video it could just be certain videos and their tremendous traffic/requests.

Dunno, could be traffic shaping. If they are shaping utube and not video in general.
