Cablevision Billing Woes :(

Anyone know of any direct contacts with Cablevision about big billing problems? I canceled my service back in April 2006 to switch over to Fios. I returned my equipment and payed by bill. A couple of months later I was sent a letter stating that I had over $1200 due because of equipment not returned. I kept calling back over the past two years trying to get this waived because I returned the equipment and each time they say that they will go ahead and put in the request to credit my account for this equipment - I'd get another letter stating it was still missing.

I moved in February 2008 and was told that I had 0 balance remaining from this old account and no equipment was due - but 1 month after, I got another $1200 bill from a collections agency stating that equipment was never received. In May of 2008 it seems that this has finally been resolved after 2 years of having to argue with Cablevision that I already returned the equipment, but I have myself a new $250 balance due from the original account in 2006. I find it absurd that I have to pay this as I was never told about it before. I've called billing twice and was told I would get a call back about it the first time and a week later the rep hung up on me when I was placed on hold.

This is just very frustrating and I would think that Cablevision would show some type of sympathy in this matter after sending my account to a collections agency for equipment that they found was already returned.

AHHHH! /rantoff

Wow, two years. Did you save the receipt from when you returned the equipment? After I cancelled, the same thing happened to me, they said I never returned the modem and billed me for it. I had my receipt as proof and read it off to them. Good thing I saved it. It was resolved about a month or two later.

That stinks. I had a modem swap when my OV service got installed. I noticed the problem the following month when I got charged for 2 modems. Luckily, I saved the receipt...

I faxed in my copy of the receipt, and they took the charges right off. Hopefully you still have your paperwork...

No. I actually had an optimum person tech that came over when I was disconnecting (they had to filter my connection when I cancelled) take my equipment. No receipt from them though and I found out after that you should NEVER let them take in your equipment.

At least this part has been resolved. But it makesme feel weird to have to pay for an old bill after this whole mess.

I've seen people go years without realizing. I don't know how they can not realize that bill increase for so long, but that's a whole other matter. Crediting a 2nd modem issue is generally not a big deal when it's caught quickly, since it's pretty easy to see what has been used or not, and when it started.

I don't know of any direct people to speak with, but if you have issues that the person is not helping with, ask to speak to a supervisor. I assume you already have because you have been advised of callbacks, but since that route doesn't seem to be working, ask for someone who is available now to answer your questions. While I can't speak for the customer service/billing group, turn-around in OOL/OV tech support is generally pretty good with callbacks.

Get a lawyer, this has gone on so long it may constitute harassment, from both CV & the collections agency.

They did the same thing to me a looong time ago, luckily I had the recipt and they said it was a mix-up on their part.
I was moving and the tech took the old cable box and gave me a new one, apparently the tech (contractor) didn't record the box return with CV. One thing I learned is NEVER let the tech take your old equipment, return it in person at the Optimum Store and get a recipt. Luckily the recpit the tech gave me was good enough.
One thing's for sure I don't like these contractors, they dont know what they are doing. I hear Fios doesn't use contractors, I guess thats another reason to switch (whenever it gets here and they finish "working on it").
