1 edit | SB5120 can not get connection with comcast!!
I recently moved from charter area to comcast area. My SB5120 work pretty well with charter, never lost connection. But not it can not get online with comcast. the online led-linght always flash. The comcast's technician tried to connect his own SB5120, and got online without problem. I bought a SB5101 from Circuitcity today, it got online without problem. Please help me to find the problem with my SB5120. Is that because of firmware? My SB5120 firmware is: Software Version: SB5120-2.19.0.6-SCM05-NOSH Hardware Version: 4 MIB Version: II GUI Version: 1.0 VxWorks Version: 5.4 =========================================================== Status Page: Acquire Downstream Channel Done Obtain Upstream Parameters Done Establish IP Connectivity using DHCP Done Establish Time Of Day Done Transfer Operational Parameters through TFTP Done Register Connection In progress Cable Modem Status Offline Initialize Baseline Privacy Failed ============================================================ Siginal Page: Downstream Value Frequency 687000000 Hz Signal to Noise Ratio 37 dB QAM QAM256 Network Access Control Object OFF Power Level 8 dBmV The Downstream Power Level reading is a snapshot taken at the time this page was requested. @comcast.net | reply to leshan Have you tried going to the Configuration page in the modem hitting "Reset All Defaults"
It's possible the bootfile that Charter was using is causing problems. |

You were in a charter area, now comcast. Did you just plug the modem in or did you call comcast to give them the mac address etc. ?
IF you didnt call them, there is the problem. |

For Comcast, you can get all LED light solid after connection even without giving MAC address. And you will get comcast.net no matter what address you input in the brower. |

| said by EG :said by leshan : Are you serious? Yes. You mean SB5120 has issue with comcast? Or some vision of firmware has issue? 1-800-comcast told me SB5120 is their official using modem. And the comcast technician's SB5120 can get online in my apartment. And because my SB5120 can not get connection, comcast can not see my modem on their site, so, their can not push to upgrade my firmware. |

It's not a problem with the modem or it's firmware. It's a problem with the configuration file being sent by Comcast to your modem. More than likely, the modem is being sent the wrong configuration file. It's probably for a different model of modem.
The "TLV-11 - Illegal Set operation failed" error means the configuration file is telling the modem to do something it can't, either because it doesn't understand the setting or it isn't possible on that particular model. The modem retries multiple times, failing every time, then resets, and starts over never fully syncing or going online. |

| reply to leshan I find another thing. When I tried to reset my modems through GUI(192.168.100.1). I found after I push the 'restore factory defaults' button on Configuration page. My SB5101 has response, the 'Upstream Channel ID' and 'Frequency (Hz)' will change to zero. But for SB5120 nothing changed. It only ask me to confirm the reset. Still shows: Upstream Channel ID: 2 Favorite Frequency (Hz): 681000000. The comcast's technician told me that they use Upstream Channel ID: 1 Favorite Frequency (Hz): 687000000.
Does it mean my SB5120 failed to be reseted? Is there any other way to reset it? |
