Comcast does not higher these people nor do they do any background checks on them in anyway. So its not comcasts fault. They can request that that employee not work for them or they can fire the company they contracted to. But they sure as hell cant know the background of these folks before hand
Not true, Comcast Does do B/G checks. The sub-contracted company has to do a background check on any new hires through a Comcast approved Private investigator ( we had two options), before that new tech can go into the field. Then they are issued an I.D. badge. Though in my area They have only done it this way for about a year now. Before all we had to do was give Comcast the techs name and 2 days later we had a badge for that tech, no questions asked.

No it's not here because it's not related to what this site is about. When do you ever see anything about weather on the news page unless it effects what this site is about?

Take a look at the front page of Google news. Do you have any idea why those stories are not posted here? Well, judging by your post, I guess you don't.
A bunch of creeps tortured a cat and their paycheck is signed by "Contractor Inc." Contractor Inc. is a contracting company whose services are utilized by Comcast. Why is this here?

Again, you are looking at this as if it is a large sample size and there is a simple fix for it. You are living in a small world. Expand your solution (which I bet is already in place) to a 100K+ employee base with 20 million customers.

When .001% of your contractor base is a "bad apple" you may be doing a "great job". When 100% of these "bad apples" are showing up in the press, it appears like you are doing a "bad job". It is all perception.

It's not just background checks. I said in my first post that they also must be bound to the same conduct standards and rules as an employee. The contractor's employees don't measure up, they are taken out of service.
Oh is this not happening already? I wasnt aware.
Wait, nevermind. It is.

Re: Rant?

OK, so I guess pro-consumer is considered anti-business. I suppose that's why the country is in the shape it's in. Let's let business do what-ever it damn well pleases to make a profit and consumer be damned.

That's pretty silly. How about a happy medium? The anti-corporate ranters here always conveniently overlook the fact that evil companies like Comcast and AT&T do employ many thousands of people and in many cases the pay isn't too shabby. They also do a pretty good job providing millions of homes with a source of entertainment (TV and internet).

Re: Sub Contractor

I know it works just the same in the "huge" space as in the "little" space. If an organization builds a bad rep, every little thing becomes a big deal, no matter how infrequent it may be. Comcast has painted themselves into a corner with BS and unacceptable customer relations for years. Turn into a visible, demonstrable culture of customer-positive policies and practices, and people might feel sorry for Comcast having a dipstick contractor give them such horrid staff.

Sorry, but I know too many people in Comcast corporate and also in my local office who have told me (and also leaked to PUCs, consumer groups, and the media) just how Comcast puts their bottom line ahead of policing their contractors. The top-down philosophy is even with the bad press, cleanup of these "individual anomalies" is far less costly than policy enforcement. Even fines or other punitive measures for failure to meet mandatory service requirements are shrugged-off.

Unfortunately, not enough customers can "jump ship" or "speak with our wallets" to make thme take much notice. So, whether you like it or not, Comcast fully deserves every bit of negative commentary that can be substantiated.

It's de rigeur in most other industries. Comcast just won't commit the resources required to enforce their written policies. It would adversely affect their bottom line by defeating the purpose of using contractors. "Oh, crap. They have to bathe and be courteous and respectful."

Re: Rant?

My question is why is it ok to let "Put company here" off the hook because "Put company here" outsourced their labor? Did anyone here realize that the money being paid to outsourced companies is comming from "Put company here"? So that would mean the outsourced company is an employee of "Put company here".

So yes, I do see why "Put company here" should be held responsible.
I was being the devil's advocate with my previous post. That being said; I absolutely agree with your post. Now you know why I will NEVER shop at Wal-Mart. Their employees are hired and treated not much better than sub-contractors.

You get what you pay for and I absolutely vote with my wallet.
