| Goodbye Mcafee
Well. It's been about a year since reinstalling Mcafee Security Suite(free with Comcast) and I just can't put up with it anymore. From the agonizingly slow reboots to the suffocation of my broadband connection.
Since nuking Mcafee and installing Avast antivirus/ Comodo firewall, just today. I've noticed Firefox loads pages much faster, reboots don't hang anymore and apps load faster.
Another thing I noticed which may or may not have something to do with the problem below is that even after shutting all of Mcafee's services down I still had to use Process Explorer to identify and kill all of Mcafee's processes before installing drivers and such.
My only problem is sometimes my monitor will go into sleep mode when rebooting and the only way to wake it is to do a complete shutdown and restart. This is a new problem that I haven't figured out yet.
I have to admit Mcafee has done it's job very well but at the cost choking the life from my computer. The daily updates cause my machine to slow to a crawl and the bloated software is probably the cause of some software cliches I've had over the past year. -- Prevent Malware |

| I have done the very same thing several years ago. Went with Avast and never looked back. -- "Where's my coffee? Oh. I guess it's my turn to make it." |

Avast and Comodo. I am happy with the set up so far. I dumped KAV and Windows Firewall. Before useing Windows Firewall I was useing ZASS with AV Disabled, as I had been a KAV user for 4 Years +. I have noticed less system slow downs on boot up and shut down applications loading slowly, and web page hangs since I dumped KAV.

| I followed Mcafee's instructions »service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.a···&lc=1033 and used the removal tool after Add/Remove then used CCleaner's registry cleaner and finally did a manual search and destroy.
I'm sure I'll see some side effects over the next couple of days as with any tumor removal. -- Prevent Malware |

| Well, I'm glad to see you folks come to your senses.. I mean Comcast offers so many good things in the way of software (BTW I actually miss Comcast and would gladly return as an Internet Customer). I mean, there's the Comcast toolbar, Desktop Doctor, and of course Mcafee... But don't forget, you can also visit their Chill site and get the Chill games toolbar.. (AKA Oberon-Media, Zango, and Huntbar)... Yes I chastise them for this from time to time in their own forums as well.. -- da Cajun Darn I hate Malware |

| reply to dolphins My experience with McAfee has not been the same. I have the security suite running on a 2 year old Dell with a Pentium D 2.8 processor and 2GB memory and it seems to run just fine. I haven't had any problems that I can knowingly blame on McAfee.
I'm pleased that the OP feels his choice of Avast/Comodo has resulted in an improvement, but if that's all it takes to hang the blame on McAfee I'll wait until I hear something more substantive before I consider dumping it. FWIW, I use this computer to connect to the server at work and the IT folks there supported my decision to use McAfee and still do. |
