| Earthlink a bunch of liars
while their internet is fast for 1.5MBPS, its not idea for gaming with latency issues.
when I signed up for the service 1.5 and 3.0 was available, when I try to upgrade to 3 just today, its now UNAVAILABLE
not to mention they cant tell me any information about whats available in my area and whats not, then they take an hour to look up info.
if AT&T wasnt as crooked I would go back to them. |

2 edits | If you tried to check for 3.0 online, you will always show not available at your address since you already have service. The database says your line has DSL on it already and you are using the online check for new service tool. To upgrade an existing install, you have to call in and have the Installations Department check your line to see if it qualifies to handle 3.0 or not.
»EarthLink DSL FAQ »Checking for DSL at Earthlink shows I can't get it, but I already have it?
As for Latency Issues, my Line Quality tests range from 33ms to 47ms as seen here.

What does your Line Quality tests show for your line?

1 edit | see thats what I did, actually did it with the online chat and they said 3.0 was unavailable, but I am talking when I first signed up with EL I did the test and the options available was 1.5 and 3.0 speeds.
also on line test, I had a 42MS ping which was good, but had 40-50% Packet lost all the way down on west coast US to me from all connections. |

| But how was the packet loss on your IP? That is what counts. Post the results so I can see.
Call and ask for Installations to recheck on getting an upgrade.
Post the current ADSL Stats from your Modem that show the ADSL Sync Rate along with Attenuation and SNR (Signal Noise Ratio).

| Go into your Modem and post what the Gateway IP is if it is not 199.174.118.18 as seen above. The Gateway IP is not the IP that you use, but it the the next hop away from your Router and normally it is a Public IP just like your Router/Modem gets as you are getting a first hop error of "host precedence violation".
This FAQ explains it.
»Tools FAQ »What does a Host Precedence Violation on my first hop mean?
Now while in your Modem, please post the DSL Stats.
Also are you using the Earthlink DSL Modem and if yes, which Brand and Model number is it? And if no or if you have another Router, what Brand and Model number is it plus how is it hooked up to the Earthlink Modem?

| The Default Gateway IP in the Modem, not the PC. It is the WAN Default Gateway IP.
You have to type in the Modem IP and browse the Web Interface of the Modem to find it. That is also how you get the DSL Stats from the Modem.
For example, the ZyXEL P660R is seen below:

| how do you find the modem IP?
I type in my own IP addy thats recognized by those whatsyourip websites and then I type 192.168.1.1 and it brings me to a Web-Base configurator with very little options, although in it it says the default gateway is N/A. |

| It should have a label that shows ZyXEL "P660R-61" or "P660R-ELNK" or "P660R-D1" as 600 Series means about 30 different Modems and isn't the Model, it is the Series.
Does it look like this? »Paying for 3mb-getting 128kbps If Yes, you have to go into Advanced Mode.

| Now that you know how to use Advanced Mode, please post the current ADSL Stats from your Modem that show the ADSL Sync Rate Upstream and Downstream along with Attenuation and SNR (Signal Noise Ratio).
The info needed is similar to this FAQ:
»EarthLink DSL FAQ »HowTo obtain DSL Stats & Diagnostic Info from the ZyXEL P-660R-ELNK Router?
Who is your local Telco? It looks like AT&T formerly Bellsouth is your dial tone provider and they are apparently provisioning your DSL line (providing DSL Sync). You would be better served to have Covad provision your line over the AT&T provisioning, but swapping out to Covad, if it is available in your CO, would require a bit of DSL Downtime.
I did the same thing a while back to get away from being stuck at 1.5 so I could get 3.0 instead.

DrStrange Technically feasible Premium join:2001-07-23 West Hartford, CT | We need to see the downstream SNR. The upstream figure looks good for whatever rate you're synced at [the current sync rates, especially if they're something other than 1536/128 or 1536/384 or 3008/384, would also be useful info]. |

| I am not sure where that option is located, I found this under Diagnostic>DSL Line and it gives buttons for; ATM Status, ATM Loopback, DSL Line status, Reset ADSL line, and Capture all logs.
DSL Line status was how I found the info in the above post. |
