| DTV #1 in CS, but, customer knows stuff they get real stupid
7-10 years ago I was a DTV customer, but they were stupid enough to have programming that cost THEM nothing (NASA TV) of on a side bird that required second dish and equipment.
Past still just few years DTV now has it on a main bird finally... but that is what forced me to DISH initially plus a great deal of then AT 150 for $10/mo for a year with no further commitment (still owned equipment then)
Well very interesting talk with DTV tonight, even though I told him several time this is not getting off cable, but back from maybe from Dish couldn't even keep that straight.
Not real impressed... and though I suspect they do, couldn't answer to the DTV HD DVR have down converted SD outputs as well. (so easily burned to DVD) Not that there are many Blueray burners out there yet (and heck just the players are still $300 and the blanks are like $14 vs 25 CENTS... HD is nice but not all that nice.
And I have noticed that HD downconverted to SD looks much better than SD end to end... you can actually read fine print end credits for instance.
Anyways may give them a chance again... but hardly seemed like #1 quality info... just they are used to dealing with people that know nothing.

I have either 1080i or 720p. I find it interesting that CBS and NBS are in 1080i but ABC is in 720p. Even WGN is 1080i. -- "The American Indians found out what happens when you don't control immigration." |

FOX is 720p as well, then again most sets until just recently were only 720p as well, except for the top end ones, now virtually all are 1080p, so that will likely change before too long.
So the DTV HD DVR has no SD outputs at all??? That's too bad if so. Limits it usefulness a lot, at least until blue ray costs come down A WHOLE LOT. -- »haywardm.com (Hayward's Key West)

| reply to Hayward The HR21, Directv's lastest receiver has HDMI, component, s-video and composite outputs. All are active all the time. Resolutions available are 480i, 480p, 720p and 1080i. Obviously, s-video and composite do only 480i.
I have an H20 and it has all the same outputs. The HR20, which preceeded the HR21 should also have the same outputs. |

| I was just going to say almost the same thing - but you beat me to it. So, I'll just post a picture of the HR21 rear-end:

| reply to Hayward They haven't upgraded, or they may be staying with 720p due to any sports offerings they may have. I know ESPN has chosen to stay with 720p.
Just as I suspected:
said by »abc.go.com/site/hdtvfaq.html :The ABC Television Network, ESPN and the majority of the ABC local stations have selected 720p for HDTV as the new standard of choice. Blu-ray, which is the new high definition optical disc format supported by the Walt Disney Company uses 1080p, or 1080 progressively scanned lines. |

| reply to Hayward ...and ladies and Germs the 480 rocks on my plain Jane Sony XBR... It looks like you are watching a DVD movie (i.e. Letterbox), so I see no point in buying a slow poke LCD TVs for 4000Gs or Plasma Crap...
That's why I highly agree with CS... I have never had any issues with them been a member since 2000 |
