Newbie with Westell 6100 & Buffalo WHR-G125 Help.I have a Westell 6100 working on century tel. I decided to add a wireless router so I purchased a Buffalo WHR-G125 with DD-WRT on it. Well the router is set to 192.168.1.1 and my Westell modem has the same address. How do get this working. I am kinda new at this wireless thing so take it easy on me. thanks |

Disconnect the modem from the router. Connect a PCto the router via Ethernet, with a 192.168.1.xxx address. Open a browser and point it to 192.168.1.1 Using the router setup program, change the IP address of the router to something else like 192.168.1.2.
edit - was too sleepy to get the IPs right |

Does the router and the DSL modem need to have the same address? |

This will go easier if you start thinking of the westell 6100 'DSL Modem' as 'my first router', and the Buffalo WHR-G125 as 'the new wireless router'. Refusing to acknowledge you have two routers will just slow the process down.
Now you have 3 Choices:
1) Do as NoStrings has suggested and renumber the buffalo to 192.168.2.1 or some other address outside 192.168.1.x If you do, you will do double NAT, which complicates Port Forwarding and online banking.
2) Put the Westell into Bridge mode and use the Buffalo as your router. Any Port Forwarding you have done, will need to be re-done in the Buffalo
3) Demote the Buffalo to a Wireless Access Point and use the Westell as your router as you have been doing.
I would choose option 3, but all of them have tradeoffs |

I got it going set the Buffalo IP to 192.168.11.1 rebooted the modem. The only thing is that when I applied settings and saved in the DD-WRT menu. I reboot the Buffalo and it reverts back to the default settings? |
