 | DTV DSL Memories I worked for DTV DSL, I really hoped that company was going to make it big and I could grow with it. We were constantly getting screwed with by the ILECs who would delay or avoid provisioning lines for us as long as possible. Sometimes actively soliciting our customers. (It seems like telecommunications shenanigans between companies are par for the course in the industry, I saw strange things when I worked for Voicestream way back in the day too.)
The best was when Qwest disconnected a support contact line and told us our contract didn't specify phone support. They were taking up to 2 mo. to provision some lines.
Of course DTV DSL had it's own problems like the self cooking modems. Our retrofitted system that looked like a VAX/VMS from the early 80s that kept choking on the internet additions and screwing up billing. Too bad we couldn't have used that super slick Rhythms system we had bought.
There was also the problem of our mysterious system glitch every 30 days before every fiscal quarter like clockwork... the side affect? We couldn't cancel customers during that period. It always fixed itself right after the quarter though.
At least they have a slightly better DVR and more HD channels than Comcast these days.
Towards the end there it almost seemed like they were trying to wreck the company on purpose with the strange management decisions. Oh well. It was fun while it lasted. |
