You can see the post office boxes on the right. That was the El Toro Post Office in its entirety. This was the last chance for gas before heading out into the canyons. They even sold Levis, socks, dungarees, work boots and overalls. Everything for the well-dressed citrus farmer.

ETR was two lanes back then. I remember this as if it were yesterday.

Lockheed During WWII(1940s pictures)

During World War II the Army Corps of Engineers needed to hide the Lockheed Burbank Aircraft Plant to protect it from Japanese air attack.

They covered it with camouflage netting to make it look like a rural subdivision from the air.

The first picture is the before and the others, after the change.

EDIT: As you can see, the freeway took out Ferguson Alley. According to my 1945 Renie Pocket Atlas of Los Angeles, it also took out nearby Sanchez St, Fort Moore and Negro Alley.
