I have an N wifi system in my house and I was wondering if there was a utility out there that would allow me test the speed between computers? The speed seems VERY slow. I suspect I can change some values in the router to help but I think I need to know what it is actually doing before I go that route. Thanks. |

How you transfer and measure makes a big difference. Browsing the network and moving files via drag & drop is typically much slower (because of the browser overhead) than mapping a network drive, FTP, etc. |

Wireless Mon from Passmark it's not free but you can try it out for 30 days. It gives you an animated radar scope of your wireless also can monitor all other wireless in your area outside your home. Pretty neat program. You can see where each wireless device is at signal wise. You need to install program on each wireless device. Current version is now 3.0. Prior 2.0 is shown below:

Version 3.0 |

@comcast.net | reply to No_Strings I finally got v3.0 of QCheck and installed it. There are no indications that it was installed. No desktop icon or program entry. I sent them a note but have not heard from them. Any idea why I can't "see" the installation? I'm running XP Pro. |

I have an N wifi system in my house and I was wondering if there was a utility out there that would allow me test the speed between computers? I think Pure Networks were listening to you! They just launched Speed Meter Pro, which looks like it is exactly what you need. There is a 7 day free trial so you can check it out. I have not used it, but I recommend their Network Magic product to anyone having home network problems.
