Please tell me they fixed logging, but I have my doubts considering they haven't had correct syslog logging since v1.6.48 (ie like 2 years ago).

Firmware Version 3.0.3-13.18

Bug Fixes:

Fixed - Packets are dropped as spoofed addresses if there are multiple LAN networks.
Fixed - Admin user name and password is not saved after a hard reboot.
Fixed - Error message in classical routing mode while adding/editing inbound firewall rule.

Known Issues:

Same mac with different IP is not accepted currently.
Client connection status problem
SNMP trap is not working with the subnet mask 255.255.255.0
DMZ users not able to access the LAN server with LAN server IP.
Log identifier display not supported for custom configured Log identifiers in email.
User is not able to uncheck PFS Key Group: in mode config record
Editing the LAN Groups name without selecting any group results in blank page.
Changes for reserved/fixed IP are not displayed in LAN groups WebUI.

Just downloaded and tried it out and yep syslog is still broken. For example install new firmware, do a reset back to factory defaults then enable all logging options and then get your email and you will not find one pop3 event (ie dpt=110) in your logs. Try surfing to a a web site and not a single outbound dpt=80 event.

In short it logs inbound traffic, but forget about logging outbound traffic, which are as important if no more so then inbound events IMHO.

OK so someone finally gave me the method to log outbound events, so now I'm just trying to build a version of Link Logger that will support the FVS338/FVX538 running 3.x firmware. If this works I'll doc it all up on my site.

Please advise. Thanks.

Here is what I got from Netgear:

Hello Johnny,

My Name is Brian,
I will be your support engineer my ID is (5062).

Unfortunately yes the syslog reporting issue is a known problem. Netgear is currently working on a fix for the firmware. The only fix currently available is to downgrade the firmware to Version 3.0.3-13.18.

Thank you for choosing Netgear, Regards;

Brian

I have the Netgear FVS336, FVS336G, FVX538 and DGFV338 instructions on how to setup logging for both inbound and outbound traffic here:
