anon posted : Cricket Wireless Broadband is the worst. It constantly drops you and is very, very, very slow. You cannot download any videos or movies. Plus, they have horrible customer service. All of their customer service is located in India, they put you on hold constantly and they have canned answers from which they will not and cannot stray. One store representative told me that the disconnecting and dropping could be fixed by setting the device to never disconnect. That is untrue. Save yourself the money and go elsewhere.

Ps - it dropped me twice just trying to write this post...it is that bad.

anon posted : DO NOT get involved with this company. The first modem they sent me was defective. They wanted me to use my insurance and pay to have it repaired. I ordered a new while while waiting on refund of the first. I NEVER got the refund. I also NEVER got the rebate on the second modem --- so instead of the free modem as advertised, I payed twice. You have to go to stores for assistance and wait in line while there is one clerk in the building. I mail a check for monthly payment b/c I would NEVER give them access to my account. I mail it at least 10 days in advance of due date, per automatic draft, but my service gets cut off every month for a few days while they are "awaiting" my payment.
anon posted : The best thing about having cricket broadband is LEAVING CRICKET BROADBAND! WHOOO!

I got the slowest service from qwest, (1.5mbps) and we're sialin' at light speed compared to Cricket! Do not get Cricket. NEVER depend on it for home internet. They will throttle your internet speed to the point where just trying to get the images to load can take 10 minutes. Forget videos. 5gb DL limit isn't near enough, 7.5 isn't enough either. And they often throttle you when you haven't even gone over your limit. I haven't even DLed 1 gig (840mb) this pay period and I'm already throttled! They're all either incompetent idiots or complete scam artists! Probably a mix of both.

Customer service is a bunch of people who probably don't even have running water who also probably think it's hilarious we're even this concerned if we can get online or not, which in a way, I could see their point. If I had to walk 15 miles to work barefoot for .7 cents an hour, I'd probably be pretty oblivious to life in the developed world too. So don't yell at them, yell at our scumbag politicians and the scumbag corporations who allow this to happen. Cut Cricket off. Don't do any business with them. No phone, no internet...nothing.
anon posted : I am contacting the Illinois Attorney General about Cricket Broadband. After having their cell phone and broadband, I have disconnected both. The cell went when I paid for 1 month of service and listened to weeks of excuses of why I did not have service (they literally couldn't figure it out.) Cricket refused to refund my monthly charges. I kept the broadband (bad mistake) and recently disconnected that because I started not having service and getting excuses. Went on for 5 days. I wanted to cancel the impending payment and was told it was too late - it happens 5-7 days prior to the due date. I could not dispute with the bank because I did sign up for Cricket to take the funds out of my account in the first place. I called Cricket on the EXACT date they told me I had to in order to disconnect. They disconnected and were supposed to send in a refund for me. Told me to wait 7-14 days for refund. Called back about 17 days later, they stated that I never requested a refund - wait another 7-14 days. I demanded a physical address to contact them at so I could remove my credit card from their file and demand a refund by certified mail and was told "we don't have a physical address". So, these people are not even on planet earth! I was also denied access to a manager because the rep stated that there ARE NO managers to oversee the business. This corporation needs to be investigated for consumer fraud. The consumer has no way to protect themselves since Cricket expects you to do everything over the phone, and we know they can say you said anything they want - true or not.

NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH CRICKET

Then we got cricket wireless :>
It was great, at first. MUCH faster internet than dial-up, without a doubt. I was able to download much faster, and I had little envy for anyone. That was before I started playing the MMORPG, Mabinogi, and learned that the internet I was using, while decent, and got the job done, was an abomonation for gameplay in respect to other players. what I mean is, I lost alot of pvp's because my internet was MUCH laggier than other players. I even noticed much slower gameplay than normal at some points. now Im starting to notice, too late, but still, that there is a 5g a month plan that restricts my family to dial-up speeds. Im pretty upset, but fact is, I don't have that many options, so I was hoping to look for somewhere with people who know my situation: being in a crappy place where you can hardly get any internet access. I don't know this town much, but I'm hoping that I can find alternatives soon. I've been downloading an update that has taken, literally, 2 days straight of downloading to 50%. If anyone can give me suggestions to any better internets, or if I can read some of these posts to find a better internet, that would really make my year.

As for a review for cricket wireless, I'd say its a good alternative to dial-up, but from what I've read so far, it's very unsatisfactory compared to most other internet providers, mainly that 5g limit to your service and it's very laggy connection makes it unsuitible for MMO's where a high latancy is nessaccery. Reliable for work or for web surfing. Even watching internet videos, but not too often. Try to look for better internet providers if you can. this is a decent connection, not extrodinary ISP.

chicagoannie posted : I purchased the Cricket broadband wireless device 3 months ago. It worked great - very fast downloads for the 1st two FREE days. I then happily purchased the $40 "unlimited" top-off card...speeds tanked after a few days (kids were downloading movies...so our speed was cut). Next month I fork out for the $50 card with the 5GB limit....NO downloading by anyone...and speed is so slow even youtube videos and Hulu don't work.

I did Speakeasy speed test today - Cricket is giving me a whopping 0.11 kbps download and .45 kbps upload. CRICKET BROADBAND SUCKS!

Apparently they decided capping my usage too. They are not offering unlimited internet. Their website says 'no catch', but that is a lie.Fineprint says the cap is there and the service is by no means unlimited.
Yesterday when they slowed down my connection to 10 kbps I just went to Radioshack, got a Virgin mobile USB modem and 40 dollar 'top-up' and now I have real UNLIMITED/UNCAPPED internet at around 500kbps.

UNLIMITED? Cricket Wireless Broadband?

compuguybna posted : Here we go again!!!!! with Mobile Broadband Providers shoving the word "unlimited" in customer's faces to sell them a service, then only, to limit their service. WTF?

Did they copy this policy from Wildblue and Hughesnet?????

-----------------------------------------------------------

All rate plans have a usage level. This is the amount of data you can upload and download in a rolling 30-day period. When the usage level is met, Cricket's Fair Use Policy will reduce your speed. You can still use the service, but you may only be able to do basic email and web browsing during this time. Your upload and download speed will be restored once the rolling 30-day data usage is below your rate plan usage level.

Speeds. 1.4 Mbps represents a burst download speed. Actual Upload and download speed will vary, and will likely be lower than the burst speed inidicated. Speed will also vary during peak hours, or if you exceed your rate plan usage limit.

At Cricket, our goal is to give each customer the fastest service possible at the best value. We are always striving to develop programs and policies that help make that possible. Our Fair Use Policy is designed to impact the fewest customers while helping ensure the best speeds for the vast majority of our customers.

Cricket has recognized that that a small percent of customers account for a disproportionate share of data usage on the Cricket network. To ensure that all customers have equitable access to the Cricket network, Cricket has implemented a Fair Use Policy, Cricket sets usage levels on the amount of data a customer can upload and download within stated periods of time. If you exceed your rate plan usage levels, Cricket will temporarily reduce the speed at which you can send and receive data over the Cricket network. You will still be able to use the service but your speed will be slower. Cricket may use other traffic management and prioritization tools to help ensure equitable access to the Cricket network for all customers. Your service speed is not guaranteed and is subject to this Fair Use Policy.

Cricket has set a rolling 30-day data usage level ("Usage Level") per customer. As shown in your rate plan brochure or on www.mycricket.com, this Usage Level varies based on the rate plan you've selected. Every day, we measure your upload and download data usage ("Actual Usage") to determine if your total Actual Usage, as aggregated over the previous 30 days ("Usage Total"), exceeds the Usage Level for the rate plan that you selected. During hours of operation, you can inquire about your Usage Total versus your monthly Usage Level by calling 1-800-Cricket and speaking with a Broadband Care representative.

Once the rolling 30-day data usage is below your rate plan Usage Level upload and download speeds will be restored.

You are likely to avoid any limitations imposed by the Fair Use Policy if your use is typical of the majority of Internet users and consists primarily of Web surfing and a reasonable amount of downloading. The rate plan brochure shows the Usage Level for each plan. The Usage Level specifies the amount of data that you can upload and download before your access speed is reduced.

Please note that your usage total is far more likely to exceed your rate plan Usage Level if you use peer-to-peer file sharing programs, you use a webcam or you download full length movies excessively, large quantities of music files, full software applications or similar high-bandwidth activities.

Cricket reserves the right to protect its network from harm, compromised capacity or degradation in performance. Cricket reserves the right to limit throughput speeds or amount of data transferred, and to deny, modify or terminate service, without notice, to anyone whose usage adversely impacts our network or service levels. We may monitor your compliance with the above but will not monitor the content of your communications except as otherwise expressly permitted or required by law.

<TABLE WIDTH=95% align=center border=0 CELLPADDING=4">
