Call the dsl help line you may be able to convince the rep to ship a wall phone filter or a dual port microfilter to you free of any charges.

Or maybe I don't understand

You understood. I don't think AT&T is going to ship anything to me "free."
Why not? My girlfriend has AT&T DSL and part of her install package was a wall mount DSL filter.

They might. They sent me a wall phone filter in my welcome kit. Maybe they can send one to you.
