If you have physical access you could login from the serial console port with a rs232 cable.
In your scans you might want to look for a MAC starting with: 00-0A-04 which is what all our 4400's start with. Also scan for open port 80.

I guess (and without knowing this particular switch) that it may also be configured such that you need to be on the management VLAN in order to manage the switch, which may therefore mean that you have to be on a particular port(s) of the switch to do it.

Console access would be the obvious way to find out what is going on...

sorry for the late reply.

I would try 3com network director. That will discover all 3com devices(and others) on a specific subnet.

can you console into the switch?
If you don't have the console password, I can email you directions for resetting the switch to factory defaults.

hi

im trying to find out the management IP address of a configured SuperStack 3 4400 switch by scanning some known ranges but without luck. The switch is configured but other person. How i can discover its IP address ?
