Re: It seems like this situation happened a long time ago. The internet is evolving. It was not designed to carry streaming traffic. What I am proposing is a way to allow the ISP to recover the cost of upgrading there networks to support the increased traffic. I propose that the ISP's be paid to carry the streaming traffic without increasing the cost to subscribers not using commercial streaming services. If the content providers pay the ISP's to carry their traffic the revenue can be used to finance the necessary upgrades. On the other hand I believe the fees should only be applied to commercial usage that requires significant upgrades to carry the traffic that usage requires. I also propose that prices be regulated to prevent the ISP's from applying predatory pricing that would make it financially impractical for content providers to use the internet to deliver content. On the other hand defining what is considered a commercial service may be a major issue. The Internet industry has to start working out these issues sooner or later and I believe it should be sooner. Subscribers and Service Providers should take their heads out of the sand and work out these issues. |
