[Other] Unable to connect via PPPoE with Trendnet router

Hi all... I'm hoping someone will able to help me figure out a problem I'm having with my Trendnet router.

I very recently switched from Rogers (cable) to Teksavvy (DSL) as my ISP. I have a Trendnet TEW-452BRP wireless router (v4.0 firmware) I've been using for about a year without any problems during the time I was with Rogers.

Now that I've switched to DSL, I find that I can't get the router to connect via PPPoE. I've entered the proper login credentials, but when I check the router log, it just keeps recording a 'connection failed' message with no further details on why it fails. I can reach the router's configuration page

When I plug the network cable directly to my PC and setup a connection using XP's built-in PPPoE client, it connects without a problem. So I know the DSL connectivity itself via the modem is fine.

I've restarted the dsl modem, the router, and my PC a few times and the problem persists. FYI I've also turned off the wireless capability of the router for the time being and simply using it with a wired connection while I'm troubleshooting this issue.

Anyone have any ideas what the problem might be?

Let me make sure I understand your configuration:
1) The modem is in "bridged" mode.
2) You are trying to do the PPPoE from the router.

Are these correct?

Thanks for that little tidbit of information - you started me on the right path i.e. I had to setup my modem via its copnfiguration page to bridged mode.

What confused me initially was that this is the first time I've had to make this correction. I set up my parents' internet with the same ISP and the same exact modem and theirs worked with the router out of the box. And before that, when I used to be with Bell years ago, I don't recall having to make any changes to the dsl modem settings themselves and it worked either through a router or plugged directlly to the NIC of a PC.

Anyway, everything's up and running now. All's well that ends well, as they say.

Many of us have the modem set to do the PPPoE (which is the default way many ISPs ship their modems) and the router set for DHCP on the WAN side. That may have been how you had set up all the others.
