Re: Connecting to Exchange on VPN

said by bg1999:

Let's take the VPN out of the picture as an experiment. Try logging into email using a browser and Outlook Web Access, can you reach your email account? If exchange-server\username and pwd fails, try just username and pwd. Tell us what happens.

Now let's take email out of the picture. Log in to the VPN. Once you're connected, launch your browser and see if you can get to the Internet. Can you access web sites w/o any trouble?

We have outlook web access built-in to our 'portal' system that is accessible without VPN. It is tier based since I work in an educational area. I have always and have no problems accessing email via the internet.

I also have no problems at all searching / browsing the internet when using the VPN. I thought it could have been a firewall issue blocking outlook, but I disabled and it was fine. Thanks again

Yes!! I have figured it out . I was adding additional information that wasn't needed. My messages are being downloaded now.

My other question is this, but I'm not sure if its a possibility. Can I join the full domain (I have adding domain privileges on my network) by logging into the machine? I am not just sure how to do this since you have to restart to enable the feature and when you restart the VPN is closed. Any suggestions?

On my Cisco VPN Software (4.0.5 D)I have an Advanced Option Named Windows Logon Properties. From there I can check of Enable Start Before Logon. With this enabled the VPN Client will start BEFORE Windows Logon. When you boot your PC establish your VPN Connection and then logon to Windows with your Domain Credentials.

The 1st time you will need to logon locally and then join the machine to the domain. After that you will start the VPN Prior to Logon.
