 | They capped my speed to 60KBps (10 percent of what it should be) when I went over my limit. I've always used around 200 too 300GB a month but last month I was over 400GB and they finally caught on.
My speed stayed slow for about 2 days and I finally called them and was told that I was using and "excessive" amount of bandwidth which is why my speed was slow. I knew all along that they had limits in place (which I think are stupid and archaic) but they never said anything so I just kept using it as normal. I think it's insane that Charter, which I had for 3 years, and then Suddenlink which I had for a year or two, never had any restrictions and then these pricks can come right along and start limiting people. ESPECIALLY when most people have no other alternative for HSI access.
I kept asking them why if there is a bandwidth restriction in place they never said anything until now. I've been going "over" my limit of 100GB every month since they took over but now it's all of a sudden a problem. The woman on the other end just kept talking in circles and wouldn't answer why. She just kept saying "we have other plans available... blah, blah, blah". I told her that I already pay nearly 70 bucks JUST for their Internet (thank god I have Dish Network for TV) and that if they think I'm going to one, pay more for a "better" plan that gives me "extra" traffic, and/or two, pay a dime for any of the traffic that has gone over my limit they can kiss my ass.
I told the person on the phone straight up that it's completely unbelieveable that I pay so much and can't even use it as much as I'd like. I said, what's next, you gonna tell people they're watching too much TV? I also told them that I know exactly why they put these traffic limits in place. It's because they want to sell more bandwidth than they can provide. It's as simple as that. By limiting peoples use, there's more to go around. They should be able to provide 100 percent of each subscribers bandwidth 100 percent of the time. No if's, and's, or but's about it. But apparently they, and the government that allows them to rip people off like they are see it differently. I guess they'd rather line their greedy pockets with subscribers money instead of investing in better infrastructure and bigger download pipes.
So anyway, I said I'd "cut back" on my use but I wasn't paying any extra for what I'd already used. I said you can shut it down and I'll go back to AOL before I pay you crooks any more than I already am.
Later on, after thinking about it I think I figured out why I finally got "caught". You see, I signed up for Usenet access and was using an encrypted SSL connection. I was pretty much downloading 24/7 at 100 percent of my bandwidth which is 625KBps on a 5Mb line. They probably seen all that encrypted traffic and thought I was running a website or some other server from my residential connection which is why she kept offering a business account (which on a side note as far as I can tell doesn't have any extra traffic allowances just faster upload speed). They asked how I was using so much bandwidth and I told them I subscribe to Usenet and download a lot of LEGAL movies and software. FWIW, the operator didn't even know what Usenet or a newsgroup even is. This is just my guess about why I finally got "busted".
Anyways, now that I'm off of Usenet and back to just downloading torrents I won't get busted again. If I do then I'll tell them once again to kiss my ass. They'll tell you that the traffic restrictions are in place to deter P2P use but if that were the case then they should only monitor and restrict UPLOAD traffic and NOT download traffic. In reality, the truth is that as I already mentioned, they want to sell more than they can provide.
P.S.- My dad has cable through them and it's TERRIBLE. I feel sorry for anyone that has to be subjected to that. I'm over at his house watching a movie with him and all of a sudden the signal disappears and a message saying "try back later" comes up on the screen. WTF???? Try back later? I just missed the end of the movie you pricks!!!! It came back on about 20 minutes later but by then the show was over. Dish Network has NEVER given me problems in the 4 years I've had it even in the worst weather. Despite what the cable companies will tell you about satellite TV, as long as the dish is pointed correctly and accurately the weather will NOT effect your signal.
Thanks for nothing Jet. |
