Hi everyone,
So, I live in Ottawa, (Mooney's Bay Park area). I've been with bell for 2 years now. It's been a pretty smooth ride with them I was getting around a 3mb. Then suddenly they put me on a 1.1mb profile, which I am still paying 47$ for.
I called tech support first, for an explanation, they told me my line was out of sync at higher rates, he was very good with me, and advised me to setup a dry dsl line, when asking him for how much it would cost, he told me it's supposed to be free, and he transferred me to billing. I asked if I could setup a dry dsl line, they told me it would cost me 99$. Seeing it's as I was not expecting this, I asked for a discount seeing that I only get 1.1mb compared to the 5mb that I'm paying for, they told me they can get 1$ off the bill... what a deal!
So here I am asking people just like me some advice. I did some research. I was first considering TekSavvy, so I called them, and asked them if they could check what speed I could get (I know they use the same network, but a man can dream can't he?), and the lady told me I can get 1.5mb :'( My heart broke.
Then I went looking for some cable providers seeing that the problem arises from the phone lines in my area. I found www.get3web.com. They have nice prices (lower than bell) all while having a higher advertised speed (7mb). So I gave them a call (getting a representative was hard!), asking some questions, mainly about coverage, speed, and caps.
They told me that my area is covered for cable. Speed might be lower than advertised (as usual :P) but I don't mind a 5mb. And they have caps of 60gb (because of Rogers). Now the cap is all right. Oh yeah, they have a 50$ installation fee, which I don't mind comparing it to the 99$ dry dsl.
But I was reading some mixed reviews about 3web, so I just want some definite advice before making the change.
My second option is going to Acanac (18$/mo/1yrcontract), and still get the 1.1-1.5 speed, which beats the hell out of the preposterous price of 47$ I'm paying now.
Thanks for listening to the biography of my internet connection. Any advice is welcomed! |

It's still says on the sign up page, that if I'm not a current Rogers, Shaw, Cogeco cable internet user, a 50$ setup fee is applicable. I think it's a fee concerning setting up the coax cable, seeing I wont be using DSL. I might be wrong though.
Have any feedback concerning CIA/3web? Do they have any downtime? |

| Hmm..that notice wasn't there last time I checked. Anyway, so what if you say yes there's service? It's not like they're going to come do anything to your coax if it works in the house already. They'll just send you the modem and you'll hook it up.
Another alternative is to sign up on Rogers on a trial and switch over CIA's reliability has been OK for a while now, and the tech support is actually improving. It's something to try...

They were mocking you. $1 off the bill! If they didn't want to give you a discount, all they had to say was, 'no we can't give you any discount off that $99' but they had to make fun of their customers for their amusement.
I hate that attitude from Bell employees. They are all like that and that's why I don't do business with Bell. They are pompous and arrogant. Rogers' employees tend to be less so than Bell in my experience. |
