Anyone heard of MalwareAlarm.

Click for full size
This is how my screen looked after getting hit by this pop-up. I know not to click the pop-up. I also know MalwareAlarm is spyware.

The site in question is shown in the bottom right corner. I have searched Google for answers. It seems to be a pathetic application from what I have read so far. I am just wondering how many other have been suckered to purchasing this application.

If you ran a script control program you wouldn't see things like that, but right now there is only the NoScript add-on for Firefox that I'm aware of. This happens as you are allowing java-script to run.

The popup explained.

I am aware I have java-script running. I have always run with java-script enabled.

This is the first time I have a a pop-up like this for years. I am not a happy mouse clicker.
I was wondering how many other have fallen for this type of pop-up. I know don't, and neither does my wife.

Thanks for the reminder of cropping my screenshot.

And thanks for the link Doctor Olds See Profile

The malware authors are using flash and other means to get around pop-up blockers and it is scripting usually. I prefer to run a white list where only sites I trust are allowed to have java-script permissions. You can set that up if you want to by customizing your IE settings and turning off java-script in the Internet Zone and then adding trusted sites manually to your Trusted Zone so java-script only runs on sites you approve of.

Hope this helps.

Your hoping it is Norton right? So you can bad mouth it.

Either the MVPS or HPGuru hosts file will prevent these
popups from even appearing in the first place.

Also, if you remember what site you were on, you should
follow the advice Sandi Hardmeier gives on her Spyware
Sucks page: »msmvps.com/blogs/spywaresucks/Default.aspx

Re: Anyone heard of MalwareAlarm.

Answering the subject line question, yes. It's part of the SpySheriff series of rogue security products.

I have Avast Home and threatfire Threatfire.

SpywareBlaster and SpybotSearch & Destroy Immunized.

I also have Firefox and no Script installed. The pop-up doesn't show with this configuration.

Just to let you all know. I contacted the site admin via email Last night, with a full screenshot of what happened when I visited their site.

example; browser minimised to bottom right hand corner of screen, pop-up was in the middle of screen. Couldn't restore browser till pop-up was exited.

I received a reply early this morning. Thanking and to inform me that they have found the offending script and removed it from their site.
