No mention of child porn for the shut down... it was low usage. |

A perceived value to a very small percentage of the user base.If less than 1% of Mcdonalds customers ate a Chicken Fatboy sandwich do you think they would continue to offer it? Even if those customers perceived it to be the reason they walk in the door?
Keep thinking business.

Time Warner's "public" reason why they're discontinuing Usenet service in a pathetic attempt to make people side with them.

I understand that is the "corporate FAQ" regarding the reason. If that was the reason why didn't they just tell the dude in NY that they were getting rid of them in the first place?
Seems that it would have been a lot easier than paying money.
And thanks. I was looking for what is said on the website (admittedly I didn't look too hard). -- "There are no stupid questions, but there are a LOT of inquisitive idiots" |

| reply to Endian A lot of ISP's have dumped Usenet and many of them did it several years ago, so it doesn't surprise me that Road Runner is doing so also. I quit using Road Runner's usenet access and subscribed to Giganews a long time ago because I never had anything but problems with Road Runner's usenet service. |

HAS nothing to do with the closing of the usenet servers. The link between child porn and usenet was made when someone in the first few posts decided that there was a link. There is no proof that this is the reason. All it was is a assumption by one of the users here.
Sadly this is yet another example of someone reporting something as news without doing their research. |

Time Warners "Public reason" as posted on their website (you posted the link) is because no one uses them.
You posted another link from the NY Times that contains no quotes from any TW employees.
Please at least stick to facts

said by NY Times : The companies have agreed to shut down access to newsgroups that traffic in pornographic images of children on one of the oldest outposts of the Internet, known as Usenet.
Here's what I'm worried about now:
said by NY Times : The providers will also cut off access to Web sites that traffic in child pornography.
What the hell does this even mean? Sites that traffic in child pornography? How is that even determined? Have fun having access to any site that allows a user to upload their own content blocked, TWC, Verizon and Sprint customers!
said by hobgoblin :Please at least stick to facts Are you saying that the New York Times is lying?
Will you, as a Time Warner Cable employee, go on the record right now and say that this is false and that supposed child pornography is absolutely not a factor for Time Warner removing Usenet access? |

I will point you to the link YOU posted on help.rr.com
That is TW's public statement.
No one else has shown me anything that would contradict that made by the company.

Sorry to disappoint you but that means they agreed to shut down certain groups that do those sort of things. That article says nothing about completely shutting down usenet. You really need to work on your reading comprehension skills. |

There is absolutely nothing contradictory about hundreds of high profile news organizations stating that Time Warner Cable is removing their Usenet access for child pornography reasons.
I knew you would avoid the question. Soooo predictable. |

NOT.
said by The Register : With an investigation that dates back at least six months, Cuomo's office uncovered 88 internet newsgroups containing more than 11,000 "sexually lewd photos featuring prepubescent children". And it found that Time Warner, Sprint, and Verizon provided access to many of these online bulletin boards.
The three net providers have now agreed to eliminate this access, and Time Warner has shut off all its newsgroups.
Well, shit. |

I HIGHLY recommend that you check out this site » hooked-on-phonics.com/ You're doing a horrible job unlinking the two after my numerous posts about reputable news organizations that do link the two. Good job putting a link to Hooked on Phonics in your post, that's really helping your case.
Are you and hobgoblin part of the team Time Warner has assigned to try and limit consumer outrage over this or something?
By the way: "allot." Really? Allot? You're the guy who's linking me to Hooked on Phonics?

I am in no position to make public statements which is what you asked.
If you look back earlier in the week the story about the removal of newsgroups was posted on the Front page before the NY AG tried to rope the two things in together.
Of course Newsgroup access will be available to anyone who decides to use any 3rd party usenet servers.

said by Washington Post : New York Attorney General Andrew M. Cuomo, at the podium, is joined at the announcement by, from left, Matthew Sullivan of Sprint Nextel, Jeff Zimmerman of Time Warner Cable and Tom Daly of Verizon.
