| [Services] Strict Verizon/Earthlink Distance Limits?
Generally I know Verizon has a limit of 12K feet for their 1.5Mbs service. I know my distance is ~14.5K according to Verizon. Does anyone have any experience of trying to get Earthlink to upgrade their service through Verizon? Or are they strictly bound by Verizon's decisions? If my connection was marginal I wouldn't consider it but I have a really good connection and would like to give it a shot. I realize that there are no guarantees that my line could handle it- I just want to try to get a higher speed after eight years. While I think dealing with Verizon directly would be best, Earthlink's network seems to be pretty good compared to what I have been reading about Verizon's. I get full speed regardless of the time of day. Does anyone have any advice on how I should go about it? |

| What are your current DSL Stats?
Earthlink has to go by the ILEC or CLEC provisioning rules as far as I know since they are reselling their products. -- Whats the point of owning a supercar if you cant scare yourself stupid from time to time? |

1 edit | My attenuation is pretty high, as you might expect, 60db. My downstream noise margin varies (I guess everyone's does), but when I connect the modem to the point where my connection enters my apartment it seems to be in the mid teens much of the time.
I figured they probably have to adhere to the prevailing provisioning rules. It just seems like depending on where you are, if by mistake or complaining enough, some people seem to get Verizon to up their speeds. Of course it may also depend on what area of Verizon you are in; I'm ex GTE (I'm finally off frame relay).
Doctor Olds, is there a test they can run at the CO to get an idea of your line quality? |

| There is a Mechanical Loop Test and the Techs have portable testers for TDR and DSL Status plus other tests. However if you are at 1.5 with mid teens for SNR right now, there just isn't room to get the higher speed of 3.0 as your line doesn't have the minimum Capacity to carry it. Your SNR would drop below minimums making it unstable/losing sync frequently and the Attenuation being 60 or above means you are fortunate to have stable 1.5 service at your distance. -- Whats the point of owning a supercar if you cant scare yourself stupid from time to time? |

| Sorry, I should have been more clear. I actually have 768kbs service right now. I was hoping I could get 1.5M with my current line. When I try to Prequalify, I get only the 768kbs option through Verizon's web site. I assume that if your address is more than 12k feet, that's your only option under normal circumstances. With me being about 2.5K more than that I don't know what my chances would be. |
