 [ENG] What's going on??

Hello everyone,

Let me just say I'm not a happy camper today. I have Videotron's trio package, like a lot of people out there. I don't know if the same happened to you guys, but... Last night (at about 9:15pm) all hell broke loose in here: First, the tv screen went black, then, I couldn't go online, and on top of the PHONE wasn't working either! Argh!

The TV woke me up at 4:45, which means that all 3 services got back and running at the same time.

I don't know if it's because of the weather or what, but my GOSH... Like, what's going on? How can those 3 services completely shut down at the same time?

I had no way of contacting ANYONE. What if something happened in here and I would have needed to talk to a family member immediately?? This complete loss of communication for 8 hours straight is just not RIGHT!

So, okay, I'm just curious to see if anyone is aware of the problem or has an idea as to why it happened or what's going on...

Big Thanks,
Angel

I guess that's the main problem of having all these services on the same physical cable. If a tree falls on that cable (or any problem happens to it), you are out of luck...

I would think that the same would be true if your phone is with Bell and you use DSL for internet... You would have the TV, but you still couldn't reach the outside world.

The best thing you can do as a backup plan would be to have a cellular phone - I use a 'pay as you go' service and have an emergency phone for about 10$ a month. Sure, I pay 30¢ a minute when I use it, but as an emergency phone (I bring it with me when I take the car too) the price per month is not that bad...

Any idea if Videotron has any affordable options?? I've never owned a cell. I always told myself, if I really need to call, I'll find a public phone. However, last night, there was no cell phone in sight and a cell would have been pretty useful. An ''emergency phone'' for important things ( I'll be late, things like that. NOT to text with friends, if you know what I mean?

I think a cell would be pretty neat, but I'm so not familiar with those, I don't want to be fooled or anything. Sellers are paid to sell and I don't really trust them, .

It could have been worse however... I've been without any videotron service since the thunderstorm yesterday... so its now been about 16.5 hours without TV, phone or internet and I was told by their support that it was supposed to come back in the evening last night... hopefully service will be back when I come back home from work today.

As far as I know, Videotron doesn't have a pay-as-you-go option... I use Fido prepaid service 10$ per 30 days (»www.fido.ca/portal/en/packages/prepaid.shtml), but there's also Virgin Mobile Prepaid plan for 15$ per 45 days (»virginmobile.ca/vmc/en/rates/rat···?lang=en)

Those were the least expensive options I could find at the time... You just have to make sure that your phone is charged (power drains over time as with any rechargeable batteries) - and if you don't use it once in a while your phone account might be disconnected.

You can look at PetroCan Mobility:
»retail.petro-canada.ca/en/mobility/2303.aspx

The main advantage of them is the airtime, which lasts 180 days for each prepaid card you buy. They use the Rogers network, so coverage should not be a problem. The only downside to this service is that you can only purchase airtime at Petro Canada gas stations.

This is ridiculous!

Petro Canada offering cell phones is just like the CAA, they're all about offering a service on any road...

Problem with Rogers is, there's lot of uncovered areas, making Rogers's coverage less interesting depending on where you're going.

Example, road 117 to Val D'Or isn't covered, La Sarre isn't covered, road 113 from senneterre to chibougamau, road 167 to st-félicien, road 138 from baie st-paul to baie-comeau, road 132 after mont-joli... Truck drivers with various locations have no choice but to reluctantly pick the beavers for full road coverage.
