Mid June & still no service

Well folks here we are mid-June. Many of you have seen my posts. Fiber optics have been up since the end of March and early May they started putting new drops in that would be servicing the homes currently subscribing to cable. These continue to hang as a spool of wire and the fiber just hangs as well. No trucks, no flyers, no "door to door sales people", township hasn't heard much. I thought I'd have it by now but...dang.

Well the township was told we'd be up and running by August 1st if not sooner. I was also told from an inside source that the reason they're replacing all the drops is because it's fiber to the home. This new cable system is completely different than anything in the current booming territories. I can't wait!

Nearing the end of July, still no service. Been seeing several trucks however. Looks like they're still splicing...going to be a W----H----I----L---E.

How many miles you estimate their doing? Must be a lot because I remember when they did a 7 mile run to the I80 truck stop, it took maybe 7 months?

My township has went and met with their director of planning, or whatever his title is. They say the local lines are fiber, not coax so that has me confused. But whatever, service is service. I guess either way it costs them 20 grand for each mile, and they shoot for areas with at least a 20% ROI. But I guess for us, they're willing to go below 15%.

I don't even want to imagine how long it's going to take them to build out, if they decide to. I originally tried getting a 200 house section of my township to be serviced by them, and after 3 months of waiting for a decision from them they said it wasn't dense enough. Now I guess their going even further north into BFE, USA for 600 houses. I won't look a gift horse in the mouth though.

But FYI, I remember a house or two with a pole that had a spoil coiled up near them, stayed that way for a good 4 months before they ran a drop. I can't figure that out. I mean a half completed job won't make them any money after all.. But I guess all good things take time.

You can't make all the people happy all of the time. But it should be common sense to shoot for the majority.

Well Aug 1, no service. I spoke with a trustee back in late June and he was promised we'd have it by Aug 1. You're probably familiar with the area being in Grove city so I'll try to explain where this is at. If you go out 80 and cross into OH, get off the Hubbard truck stop, go south on US 62 which is actually OH 7 too. Make a left at OH 304 in Hubbard then go east on there until just before you cross into PA, you'll come across John Waite Rd. That's where it starts when it's Hubbard Township, Time Warner has Hubbard itself. From there south they're running fiber from pole to pole since the cable system is so bad. But actually they're extending this off of the Boardman, OH system so they really couldn't use any of the old wiring anyway. My understanding our headend is going away, it's just next to the fire station and I saw 6 Armstrong trucks there today.

During my drive today I noticed several new nodes, appear to be waiting to have power hooked up to them. They spliced a device to feed the houses where there is a drop.

This can't be costing them too terribly much really, it's just an addition to their existing system.

In the current systems, the local fiber lines run to the nodes and then coax runs from the nodes to your premise. In our township, they just ran fiber from the Boardman headend to these new nodes, but also they built fiber going from the nodes directly to the premise because they're doing completely away with our old system.

Hubbard township & Coitsville Township is where this is all taking place. We use to have Rapid Cable which covered both townships, now Armstrong bought it, so they're connecting it to their adjacent system but doing away with what was the Rapid Cable system. Now this whole thing sits between Lowellville and Hubbard. It's about an 8-10 mile strecth, but thats straight line between Lowellville & Hubbard, not any road length like the cost of running fiber is.
