Re: [Update] Opera 9.50 Final

Yeah, I just installed the official release of 9.51 now..seems great.

Same build number as the early one I posted.

Version 9.51
Build 10081
Platform Win32
System Windows XP

Changelog: »www.opera.com/docs/changelogs/windows/951/

That leak appears to have been fixed, so I'm happy.

They really got on top of things quickly this time..nice job Opera!

Here's a link to the Opera 9.51 final (build 10081)
It seems Opera 9.51 will be released very soon

»ftp://ftp.opera.com/pub/opera/win/951/en/

It's pretty much the same as 9.51 RC3 though.

Opera forums thread is here: »my.opera.com/community/forums/to···d=240642

Thanks Cafe i usally don't update until it's offical but the upgrade from 9.50 to 9.51 seems to have gone well.

Plus they say that 9.51 will be available tomorrow and will have the same build number any way.

Whether that fixes what you're seeing, you'll only be able to tell by trying it.
I will do so and report back Blackbird. Thanks for the info.
We're at RC3 already, thankfully. It can't be too long before 9.51 final sees the light of day.

Just an update, my BBR colleagues, which is a bit shocking for me. Opera 9.5 with just two tabs open is using 121 MB. What gives?
There are issues for some people with 9.50 consuming large amounts of memory, running processor usage up to 100%, and/or GDI resource/memory leak(s) - particularly on Win98 systems, but also on XP and Vista. Whether these are all related by cause, I'm not sure (and I'm not certain if Opera folks fully know yet). There's been a fair amount of buzz related to it over at Opera's forums, in any case.

At least some of this (particularly the GDI leak) is supposed to be fixed in 9.51 which is currently at the RC2 level, and will possibly be 'final' in a week or so. Whether that fixes what you're seeing, you'll only be able to tell by trying it.

Another thing that's always confused me in Opera.. why is there no option to disable the built-in Bittorrent client from Opera's preferences?
Here's how I did it:

Tools > Prefs > Advanced > Downloads

Uncheck the 'Hide filetypes opened by Opera'

There should be a 'Quick Search' bar that you can plug 'tor' or 'torrent' into. Select 'Edit' and then
'Open with Other Application'. Hopefully it'll stick.

Ya, this box is running XPsp2.

I have another one with Win2k, and one running Xubuntu, but I haven't upgraded those to 9.5 yet.
I guess there's a difference in what is displayed in Opera's prefs on OSX as opposed to Windows. Why? No idea.. but it seems to be the case.

Another thing that's always confused me in Opera.. why is there no option to disable the built-in Bittorrent client from Opera's preferences? Each time I want to disable it I have to go through opera:config..

Ok..

caffeinator See Profile, you're on Windows, right? That might shed light on this mystery. The Mac build might just be missing those options where they do appear on Windows for whatever reason.

Well IDK..here's mine using the new default skin.
It's pretty, but takes up way too much valuable space running 1024x768 on a 17" CRT.

Not only are you missing those 2 items your help and ok buttons are reversed.
What the.. hell!?

Try seeing if the option is there if you use the default skin.

The skin you are using might not be fully compatible with Opera 9.5.
This is Opera's brand-new default skin for 9.5! Er, I'm pretty confused. Maybe a reinstall is in order :/

Weird thing is.. I completely uninstalled whatever weekly I had before installing 9.5 final. Arg.

What I'd like to know is where the heck the smooth scrolling option went.. I can't find it in the prefs anymore :/

It's in the same place as the option I mentioned above.
On the top of the "Browsing" section of "Advanced" Prefs.
