said by Rogue Wolf :Web page icons are not being saved on my favorites. Same here on my laptop. Does anybody know what's up with that?
Edited to remove incorrect statement that favicons are showing on PC with Opera 9.5. PC still has 9.27 installed.

| reply to richter35 Agree speed is much improved in this version. I notice one issue however, Opera does not seem to shutdown quickly when closed. The browser "disappears", but opera.exe continues to run for about a minute in the background according to task manager. Anyone else notice this? |

1 edit | reply to richter35 Like most large updates, I backed up my profile, cleared the cache and all, and went at it. Upgrade from 9.27 went just fine and kept all of my settings...even using a highly modded setup and Micro skin w/ toggle buttons for menu and personal bar.
I'm lucky that I'm not using M2 as I've heard of lots of messes upgrading that esp. with large Db's.
A few things though...
1. I had to turn on mouse jestures for mouse naviagtion to work again. (i.e. hold & click opposite button for backwards/forwards)
2. My personal bar uses only the favicon images to save space..those are in a different format now. I had to re-visit the sites, and in a few cases I hade to recreate the bookmark and re-add to personal bar for the icons to show.
3. It automatically changed a few toolbars I'd customised..but was easily fixed.
4. I had to change type to "identify as FF" for the IPcop box adress to get menus back again. Local LAN sites can be tricky I found..esp. with the Content Blocking turned on in site prefs.
All in all, it zooms though...verrry fast even compared to 9.27. Even my old nemesis Ebay seems faster now.
Nice work Opera.

| reply to richter35 I'd originally thought v9.50 was a dog, but that might've been because I had 204 tabs open through three instances of Opera. (I'd get around to checking certain sites/pages eventually...) It hung up on me and would not complete pages, it seemed. Would take a long time to come to focus.
I ended up backing up, removing, and reinstalling v9.50 from scratch and restoring bookmarks and mail.
Seems to be OK now so far.
Now I've got only ten open tabs in one Opera instance. -- HCN: Because you deserve a rest!

It's not as space efficient as my favorite, Breeze Micro, but it's a very well designed skin nonetheless. It shows that a lot of work went into it. |

| reply to richter35 Well, I've finally hit an Opera upgrade that bombed out for me. After trying Opera 9.5 for about 10 days, I've Ghosted my Win98 computer back to version 9.27. Because I use the Win98 system as something of a guinea-pig for upgrades, I'll not even be attempting a 9.5 upgrade to the XP systems here... way too many recurring Opera 9.5 problems with 98, 98SE, XP, and Vista surfacing at a number of online forums, and way too few on-target fixes from Opera thus far. Methinks this'll cause me to pass for several upgrade versions before I regain the confidence to try upgrading again.
Problems that were insurmountable for me were: 1) Printing a web-page on an HP inkjet created a 1x1-1/2" micro-image in the top left corner of the page. Attempts at all sorts of creative zooming, scaling print, print from print preview, and other 'back-door' attempts at printing all failed to remedy this problem. Opera forum shows several others with the identical problem. 2) There is a major GDI leak/failure-to-release of some kind in Opera 9.5. Each very ordinary web page loaded (including Opera's own website) ate up 3-5% of available GDI resources - but would never release the resources, even if the caches were cleared. Eventually, after 15-25 sites were visited and as the GDI resources dropped below 5-10%, the screen image would begin to break up, usually first appearing in the tool, menu, and message bars - but eventually progressing across the whole window - black lines, gibberish, bars, etc. If one reacted quickly enough, Opera could be force-closed with the "x" button, but if I was too late, the entire computer locked up.
Lesser problems were: 3) The "back" button would often bring up a previous page with corrupted format, requiring a forced manual reload to recover the correct format. 4) Cookies were no longer able to be edited... the "edit" button seemed inactive, and only "delete" was available as an option, and the "add" button was not present.
And with all these issues, I never even got to the point of checking for some of the download/transfer screen problems many others have been seeing. But I did find the new inability to clear the transfer/download cache of records more than a bit annoying and risky to privacy.
Note: regression to v9.27 cleared up every single problem. -- If God wanted us to work with electrons, He'd make them big enough to see... |

| said by illJazz :Sorry to hear your experience is so lackluster Blackbird . I have yet to find any problems with my Opera 9.5 installation on OSX. I'm sorry too! I had been looking forward to some of the new 9.5 features, and I certainly was pleased with the much faster speed I observed when I was using it. From what I've observed at various forums, the problems folks are having with 9.5 are both very real and very uneven... a number of users have similar problems - but many other users don't see them, for whatever reason. Kind of reminds me of some of the more problematic Windows updates (or even the Vista release) that would work fine for many and give "fits" to others.
Probably some of the problems are related to Win98 compatibility bugs... the tiny-image print problem is likely one of those. Others (like the GDI resource and/or excess-object problem) are showing up on a number of OSs.
There's a lot of "not ready for prime time" buzz over at the Opera Forum regarding 9.5... but I choose not to focus on that. I'm just grateful that Opera has so consistently put out top-notch browser versions for free over the years. And, if there should be the rare "blowout" upgrade that crops up from time to time, that's why I run imaging software on my systems - and often.
Anyhow, I'll just sit on the version sideline until I feel (from changelogs, etc) that there's a fair chance my problems are resolved... then I'll dip back into the upgrade waters. -- If God wanted us to work with electrons, He'd make them big enough to see... |

1 edit | reply to richter35 For what it's worth, I noticed there was an Opera 9.51 Beta that showed up while "playing" with Filehippo Update Checker quite a while back.
I haven't really researched it at the Opera Site, but I did find it unusual at the time that a new Beta was available so soon after 9.50 was released.
Maybe they know there are more problems with 9.50 than they originally thought, and are working on a quick release of 9.51? (Just thinking out loud, I suppose...maybe most of you already knew about it). -- I had a life once.....now I have a Computer and a Modem. |

As always, I'm looking forward to the next version, though I can't say I'm having any noteworty problems with 9.5. |

After your comments I did, and Opera's using about 200MB of RAM with three tabs open.. that does seem a bit much. This is on Vista.
I just checked on my Macbook, and Opera 9.5 uses almost 500MB of RAM with 14 tabs open. Yikes! |
