"Link prefetching is a browser feature that allows an HTML page to retrieve web content when an end user's browser connection is idle. The prefetched content gets stored into the browser's cache, and will therefore appear quickly once the user goes to the page containing the prefetched content. A web page can specify what content may be prefetched via a specific link tag."

Even with older versions I was seeing anything from 30-200mb. Couldn't tell you what I'm getting right now as my system with Opera on it is currently down. |

1 edit | This is odd.
Ok, just this one thread open...I have been using it heavy all day though if that makes a difference. P3 1Ghz, 512 ram, XPsp2, and using a customized, but very minimal Opera setup.
when I checked, with this Opera not-minimised..49M. Minimised it..went down to 11M. Now the weird part...re-maximized it and it went to about 18M...and started climing while I watched. Keep in mind that the only tab open is this one..either it's leaking or IDK what. Last I saw it was at 25M adn still rising..while Opera is doing nothing at all.
Just checked task manager again..was at 31M. Once again..as I watched, it started climing again.

I don't get it. Can anyone explain that besides a memory "leak"?
Oh, I changed the page loading from the default I had of instantly to 1 second..and now I haven't seen that screen garbling bug. (it's in prefs >> advanced >> browsing)

1 edit | What I'd like to know is where the heck the smooth scrolling option went.. I can't find it in the prefs anymore :/
UPDATE: Found it via opera:config. It seems odd they removed that from the regular prefs though. Kind of an obvious setting to have available without having to screw around with opera:config.. oh well.
And the description above definitely sounds like a memory leak. For me, Opera's simply using a ton of memory.. seemingly way too much. This might be a good topic for discussion in the Opera forums. |

1 edit | Well IDK..here's mine using the new default skin. It's pretty, but takes up way too much valuable space running 1024x768 on a 17" CRT. |

caffeinator , you're on Windows, right? That might shed light on this mystery. The Mac build might just be missing those options where they do appear on Windows for whatever reason. -- I r a lolcat. |

Another thing that's always confused me in Opera.. why is there no option to disable the built-in Bittorrent client from Opera's preferences? Each time I want to disable it I have to go through opera:config.. |

Tools > Prefs > Advanced > Downloads
Uncheck the 'Hide filetypes opened by Opera'
There should be a 'Quick Search' bar that you can plug 'tor' or 'torrent' into. Select 'Edit' and then 'Open with Other Application'. Hopefully it'll stick. -- I don't mind coming to work, but that eight hour wait to go home is a bitch. |

| reply to richter35 Just an update, my BBR colleagues, which is a bit shocking for me. Opera 9.5 with just two tabs open is using 121 MB. What gives? -- Courage is being scared to death but saddling up anyway.
