Sprint BBDirect Discontinued - Removal of tall antenna

Hi - Like others in the Phoenix area, I received my discontinuation of service notice from Sprint. When my service was initiated in 2002, it was necessary for their tech person to install a tall tower of galvanized pipes, approx 25-30 feet, on my roof in order to get a clear view over the neighbors' trees. It is not an attractive site and for a while was a neighborhood curiosity, but it has served us well for the last six years. I do not believe I own either this tower or the Hybrid modem, that these items are the property of Sprint. Therefore, I believe it is Sprint's responsibility to send someone to pick up the modem, or otherwise provide me instructions/permission to dispose of it, and to remove their tower from my roof. I have not called Sprint about this yet, I simply would like to know if anyone else has a similar situation. Also, please correct any misconceptions I have regarding ownership and responsibility of this equipment. Except for slow speeds at times, I was happy with my Sprint BB. Thanks!

When you signed up for the service you signed either a 1yr, 2yr or 3yr contract to get the service. This contract included the equipment, which depending on the length of the contract it either reduced the cost of the equipment or made the equipment cost free. So the equipment does belong to you per this contract and Sprint does not come out and take it down, though they use to offer an option when canceling the service, but it costs extra and they still left the equipment with you.

I just called about this and after being shuttled between three different customer service representatives I was told that I own the equipment, and that they will not remove it, and that they don't have any service available to remove it, even if I was willing to pay to have it removed.

I've just sold my house, and since the new owners can't use the service because it was discontinued,I'm sure they don't want the lovely dish on the roof. I guess I am stuck finding out how to get rid of it. I don't relish having to climb on the roof to do it and don't have any idea who to call to have this done. Any suggestions?

You could call the call center and they might be nice enough to give you the name/number of the general contractor they used to install the equipment in the first place. Otherwise any handyman, contractor, roofer etc could remove it. Then throw it all in the garbage - it's of no use to anyone now.

it may work as a digital and/or hd antenna? Worked for me.

That is what I was thinking, a nice mast for a TV antenna.
