Qwest DSLfails to compare with SBC-AT&T, GTE & Bell Atl.

I moved from California SBC 6mb downstream consistently, to Colorado Qwest. I had experience with the great DSL from GTE and Bell Atlantic. I presumed Qwest would provide the consistent DSL service I experienced with other DSL providers.

I subscribed to Qwest DSL Premium Service with 6 mb down and 1.5 up. The best downstream speed from Qwest was less than 3mb down - with the typical at around 87kbps.

A persistent problem was with Qwest interruption of service at least once per week requiring a reset of the modem, gateway, and switches. The other major issue was with the only machine running Windows Vista - a laptop. This machine required rebooting at least once if not twice per day to regain access to the internet.

I finally had enough with Qwest and subscribed to Comcast. consistent 6mb down and at times 13mb down. No more resetting the modem, gateway and switches. This forum post is being submitted using the Windows Vista laptop which has not been rebooted in 3 weeks.

The problems I experienced with the internal network, computers, gateway and firewall all disappeared - the real problem is a communication company that is lost and does not know how to run a network. Do not presume a method of escalating the issues up the food chain to correct the problems. It appears employees hide the problems from management and the executive department enjoys not knowing.

If you have a review put it on the review site dude.

You obviously aren't a Qwest DSL sub any more - so have fun with comcrap.

There is no such Qwest DSL offering as 6M/1.5M.

As for your LAN problems? They're LAN problems. What you did to fix them I don't know, but hardly Qwest's fault. Seriously- you're blaming Qwest for having to reboot your Vista laptop? Are you serious?

1.5m up? LOL ive been with qwest for more than a year and never heard of that upstream rate. i see 1mb up but usually its 800ish. not even the new 12 and 20 meg has that up speed. if you had that all mainstay on this forums should have known that.

hey guys a better upload here. LOL.

Can you all say; "Cough Cough B.S. Cough Cough"

As already mentioned; Qwest doesn't offer 6mb/1.5mb dsl. And for what it's worth, there is NO ADSL service in the country that offers 1.5mb upload speed. It's not technically possible. Beeeeeep; wrong answer, but thanks for playing.

Also; as pointed out; if you had to reset your internal gateway and switches, then that's because you don't have your lan side of your network configured properly. On a properly configured LAN, you can take down the WAN (DSL MODEM) 10 times a day, and when it comes back up, your LAN will have access to the internet again. Nothing changes. Matter of fact, without the Qwest part, you still have a LAN. You should be able to share files, share printers, communicate with internal servers, etc... If you can't, it's because you either don't know how to set up a network, or your internal network gear is garbage. Beeeeep; wrong answer, thanks again for playing. "NEXT CONTESTANT". Later.... Mike.....

Paying for 6 and getting less than 3? That sounds exactly like Comcrap to me.

Been a few years since you had that service; those companies merged (along with NYNEX) to form Verizon.
I finally had enough with Qwest and subscribed to Comcast.

Switching providers could not, by itself, solve LAN problems. Your LAN is, in most cases (AT&T, as SBC is now known, Verizon, Comcast, or Qwest) user responsibility; unless you paid for a home networking package. AT&T and Comcast have such; don't know about Qwest and Verizon.

The only way I can think of internal LAN problems being associated with an external ISP is through the Modem device.

Yes, I can see you having some LAN issue if you happened to have a crappy Modem/Gateway. But that's ALL I'd believe out of the post.

The Rates: BS. I second Mike on that.

Have fun with ComCrap, Fanboi!
