AZ_OGM : Most places where Sirius has ground repeaters is in areas where dense buildings and other things block the satellite reception. I know Phoenix only has one repeater and it is basically so drivers on Interstate 10 going through the Deck Park Tunnel downtown don't lose their signal. Its is a fairly strong repeater having a radius of almost 7 miles.
As for the satellites always seeming to be low on the horizon, I'm thinking that has a lot to do with the fact that Sirius' birds travel in a figure 8 pattern across the western hemisphere. I know living north of the 45th parallel can be a pain in receiving satellite signals. I always had a hell of a time trying to lock in an acceptable signal from Dish Network's 110 slot in Minnesota.

scots : Sirius has ground repeaters located all over the country to assist with reception. Unfortunately, it looks like there might not be any of those in Maine. There's an unconfirmed report of one in Portland, ME, but none other than that.

You might want to try going to the customer service web site and reporting your reception problems. I don't know if it would help or not, but it wouldn't hurt to try. If they have enough people reporting reception issues there they may add some ground repeaters. When you get to the web site and fill out the form, select "Radio Reception" as your category.

XM v Sirius

Dominokat : First of all. I love Sirius. I listen to it all the time in my house and never have a problem. BUT, I gotta tell you. I am very disappointed with Sirius in a car. I've tried TWO OEM receivers, and at allot of times it sucks when the satellite is low to the horizon. (Seems to be allot) But when the satellite is "higher" I get great reception. I can almost know when it is good or bad from the time of day. There is like 1 1/2 hours a day when I get a great signal in my car with very few drop outs. Otherwise, it is constantly dropping out. I know Sirius has three satellites handing off signals but damn!
XM, on the other hand has a permanent satellite above. I am seriously considering moving to XM because at least IT WONT KEEP MOVING and I can depend on a signal.

--
"Open the Pod bay door Hal"
